Kaep's contract in 2014 was 6 years/126million with 60 million guarantee
JImmy's contract in 2018 is 5 years/137million with 70 guarantee

Kaep's contract had tons of escalators and had far less frontloaded money

But in reality theyre pretty similar in that 49ers hold all leverage after 2 years from cap hit perspective

Kaep made 40m out of that contract over 3 years
Jimmy will likely make 60m over 2 years and then they'll re-evaluate him

is it too high for jimmy for largely unproven qb ? yes. is it that different from Kaep's contract adjusted for inflation ? not really from cap hit perspective, aside from frontloaded money.

Im never for paying qbs a ton of money, and this isnt an exception. but acting like theres a huge gap in these contracts, at least from team perspective is kinda wrong

But people are comparing Garoppolo's contract to Kap's lack of contract.. comparing 137 million to zero, not even Kap's previous contract. They are completely different situations.

Im talking about people like @JLova saying Kaeps deal was wack and this isnt.

I agree with you about Kaep's lack of contract, but we already know why he isnt getting one :mjpls:

Great deal for 7 starts.

The thing is I actually believe that Lynch is a competent football guy and will go out and get Jimmy G the talent around him to help him succeed. Complete opposite of Baalke.

If Jimmy G gets anywhere near the talent of 2012-2014 niner teams we win at least one Super Bowl.

its still team-friendly. we giving him tons of money when we have 80m in cap and then we tighten up to the point we can toss him :manny:

again, Im not too crazy about giving this amount of money to a guy with 7 starts, but we have leverage past these two years just like with Kaep. worst case scenario he sucks balls and we drop him after a couple of years.
