And in regards to sales, you take an Immortal Technique, even if he sells 5k that's 50 thousand pounds, don't tell me most people wouldn't refuse that off an album lol. Plus he's selling more than that.
This is where your wrong and exposing your lack of knowledge. I know artists that are independent that are making a very decent amount of money, I'm talking on a personal basis. Artists do not just make money from album sales, surely you know this.
No..95% of all underground rappers have actual jobs in real life..or go to school
Making music isn't that expensive however, paying the right people to get you out there is very expensive. You could be the next jayz but if you don't have right people working your music it won't matter.
Yep, not even bout selling the music either you just gotta know people that know people. Now days label sign artist quietly and act like the artist created there own buzz then announced they just signed the artist to this huge deal. Little did the public know said rapper has been signed and for at least a year.Exactly..anyone can make music..they act like just cuz someone can rap and they put money behind him that he's not gonna be lazy like most are and push his product..I know 100s of rappers that are good,,,and guess what,,most of them don't know how to sell music
This conversation is becoming tiresome lol. I don't know what your saying no to me for, I know a lot of underground rappers aren't making money, but I know for a fact some are. Brother Ali, KRS-One, Cormega, K-Rino, G Rap and a bunch of others are making money off album sales, shows, features and other shyt. Ali not that long ago bought a new house he owns out right. Through music. I know a Latino crew that ain't even have a deal and sold mad records out their car, they made a lot of money. 1000's,. There's an undeground rapper in the UK that made 300 thousand off a clothing line. Skinnyman makes good money off shows and was always working before the jail sentence. I've worked with rappers before, a lot, I know what shyts like. A friend of mine is a promoter and booked Wu for a tour. Yes Wu are famous but some of their member's are underground really and they still making some cash and are good. I know another underground rapper that has toured Europe. I know an underground producer that charges around $500 per beat and gets regular work, yes it isn't millions but he's making something, more than most people's monthly salaries. He's worked with Premo, G Rap, mad people.
First off I want to say thank you for including me in this conversation. I can honestly say working together to try to make something happen, even if it fails, we dont know until we try. I personally would like to say coming from my perspective is that its tough to crack it in the music world, and its very hit or miss.
Some times you can get some decent coverage or a nice blog post but the work you put into it is the work you get out of it.
This week because i was on counterstrike 2, i finally got a mention on the ego tripland blog (yessss)
http://www.egotripland.com/counterstrike-2-decade-of-unkut-mixtape/
and i was very very proud of that. i also got an article written about me on a austrian online magazine here
http://themessage.at/?p=24412
All of this happened (on top of my countless features with unkut.com) because i took a risk. I reinvented myself, changed my name, put on a mask and tried to do something different. I put NO MONEY behind anything i did, i simply geared myself towards a target audience and put out the best quality material i could and it has now allowed me to make some great headway with some rappers i enjoy listening to.
@The Ruler 09
Features with named rappers help tremendously and draw attention from blogs without question. Guys like roc marciano, willie the kid, g rap, saigon, etc are easily accessable and will draw attention from the target blogs.
Dont listen to the bullshyt that certain indviduals perpetuate.
My idea is that @AsAboveSoBelow should be the rapper that we get behind, the reason why iis because he has a name thats already been built. He is, in my opinion, the most visible and the most talented with that visibility, hes already made headway in terms of his coverage.
This idea could definately work. I would be more than happy to contribute to it and use my connections to try to get visbility (this is a little easier if im on production) the thing is, like any other professional id have to be paid for my production if it was used simply because i am very good at what i do and i feel i should be compensated for it.
It takes money to make money, i made a good 225 dollars off of my album i put on bandcamp and majority of the sales came from the coli. Now imagine if it was a collective movement to help really push something and everyone who is actually connected follows through. You have to look at the positive end.
if you wanna PM me or call me, just let me know, im more than happy to help.
misleading thread tittle.......... If this was about non-entertainment i'd be interested.... but since it's not i'm
outta here :pharrell:
