I ain’t see a thread but I dunno y’all, it don’t look like the people are going back to them bad ol days.....:jbhmm:

There’s already decades old separatist forces in the country. Do y’all think this has a chance of becoming a theater of proxy war for China and India since they border the country? Also, does this change the Rohingya question? If the whole country is in revolt then it would make sense for them to join in the revolt and reclaim their place in Burmese society.

Personally, I’m not sure if it’ll get Syria level bad because too many countries that are looking to keep developing are threatened by a destabilized Myanmar. But it seems like things are escalating rather quickly.

What y’all think? :lupe:

The military has the firepower I believe.

It will be hard for the people there to wage a proper battle with mass casualties

My first thought are if there were a mass uprising where would the supply chains be at. I know the separatist movements have maintained through various means but that’s small compared to a full on civil war.

With that said, this kinda indiscriminate killing on top of everything else could be a time bomb if it’s not quelled soon enough.

myanmar has really weird hierarchies of citizenship. groups like the karen and son are full citizens but the rohingya are “resident foreigners” - they cant do things travel around the country or enroll in higher ed.

the other ethnic groups with official citizenship have always been fine with this status quo. maybe things will change now but i expect them to still treat the rohingya with :mjpls:

Wars are just so easy to start and maintain. There will ALWAYS be someone willing to sell arms, people willing to send money "for the cause", military ppl who see themselves as the next ruler, politicians who see themselves as the next savior, young people who see themselves as the next hero, corporatists who see themselves as the next oligarch and neighbors who see the war as a way to exert influence.

Interesting, didn’t know about those internal dynamics.

What I’m curious about also is how the how the UNSC handles this. I doubt the Burmese military gon listen to shyt plus they’ve got a few powerful allies so they can play the long game. But does this begin to bring into question the effectiveness of the UN in dealing with these issues much like what happened with the 5 of Nations?

Russia and China are backing Burma that's why this is happening.
