Actually it’s just the opposite. You don’t see us commenting on your shortcomings, of which you have many, unless it’s in defense of some ignorant shyt one of you has said first. We know what our shortcomings are. We don’t need another Black person who isn’t from here and has just as many unresolved issues of their own to speak on them for us. That’s the issue here.

And I’m sure you can build a society on your own, but the fact remains you haven’t. At least I’m fair minded enough to understand why that is.
Literally happens all the time. People here made a whole thread calling South Africans cowards because a Black kid was assaulted at a pool. There's the regular chinese run y'all posts of which one was posted right below your message. People here have a habit of waving our struggles and atrocities in our faces casually. Don't say you don't see it. You might just not care about it. But it happens often. And you literally invalidated your own words with your last sentence. It's not "you can't built a society" it's we. You a part of that equation. The point....

He really shouldnt have said anything at all. He is confidently spewing ignorance, and he had his publicist come out and throw that halfbaked apology together.

Now imagine me taking his same backwards arguement and incorectly applying it to the chinese people thriving and running bussinesses in Nigeria or the White people doing the same. Is this happening because Nigerians dont know where they are from? Obviously not.

His ignorance is taken even further by the fact that he is unaware that Chinese-Americans were also repressed and stymied prior to the 60s when the model minority myth was born. Coincidentally, the same time discrimination was ended by black people in this nation. Of course, This says nothing of the poor chinese huddled in both eastcoast and west coast chinatowns in 2023.

The worst thing about it was that the interviewer tried to save him and atribute the arguement to chinese govt propping up people or them making an economic play from their home country ; but BurnaBoy then ignored the extended branch and continued his diatribe about people who have been here for 500yrs not knowing where they are from. Notice how he focused on lineage when describing the italian immigrant, not economics.

His argument was shallow and half-assed. I agree. But he never said Africa is perfect, or that Africans are more well off or have some intellectual superiority over African Americans. He didnt attack African Americans at all. His diatribe was more a call to unity amongst ourselves, as a race, than anything else.

And yes I know there isn't complete unity among Africans either. I'm not wit the tit for tat diaspora war game. Like I said, none of us has any room to mock poverty or economic dependency on one another and I didnt hear him say African Americans are all poor or beleaguered economically while Africans are not. His point is agreeable and this more fake diaspora war outrage from people that need an outlet to feel envied and significant in their lives. Black people of the diaspora are more resourceful and economically capable with ties to the homeland and the rest of the diaspora. We need more unity, not division.

Until you have something actionable, it's best not to speak on it. Focus on something particular.

Work with HBCU's here whereby students can spend a semester or year abroad. Boost that visbility. We wanna make BET black owned again - bring back College Hill - make it about students studying abroad.

There's things we can all do but people should clearly state their objectives.

I get what he’s trying to say, but It’s not something that can/should be unpacked in a nightclub. It’s a nuanced issue with a ton of layers. It’s not as simple as the China man knows his grandfather. Well I knew my grandfather too. 400+ years of history requires serious, genuine discussion and I’m not sure someone like Chakabars and burna boy is capable of that.

i agree that unity is a good thing.. But What my post was saying is that this is not his arguement in that video. You are speaking for him.

Please replay the original video. The interviewer tried to lend him an olive branch and guide the discussion to this point, but Burnaboy ignored the economic point. When he speaks of a base, he is speaking of a geographical location and a geneological history, not an economic base. Burnaboy purposefully and explicitly turned it into an attack on lineage. And he specifically singled out black americans , when he could easily have spoken about jamaicans, trini(s), Candaianisns, afrolatinos, etc. And I truly believe he is an intelligent man with a competent grasp of the english language, so this makes him more than capable of saying “black people need unity”. He did not say this. This is where we disagree.

How can there be unity when slick things like this are said? Do you begin a cross-atlantic bussines meeting by immediatley insulting your partner accross the table? This is the sticking point. Its gaslighting and incondicive to the unity you describe. You know you would not like to be treated this way.

Furthermore , he offered a hottake on US race-politics with no knowldge of our internal dynamics. Once again, something you dont do to someone you are hoping to have an economic partnership with. Imagine me deriding an Igbo Nigerian by explaining the strife betwen igboland and Fulani using my limited understanding of Nigerian politics.

this is why i say he shouldnt have said anything at all. Burnaboy created division by opening his mouth.

What do you mean by build a society on your own? Do you know what a society is?

Africans have been around for 300,000,000 years, obviously Aficans have built society and every African country is a society.
Your way of reasoning does not make logical sense, typical of strongly ideological and militant people.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
I get what he was TRYING to say. Basically how our original ancestry and history was ripped from us unlike other people that are here. So we don't have the luxury to go back and get support unlike every immigrant here. Hard to when we don't even know the exact place we originated. I dont think he meant any malice.

Not trying to be sarcastic... but dudes literally say the same thing he said in the video on here on a daily basis; even Tariq himself:dahell:. That other groups have another country (base) that they can possibly use for help, resources and go back to if necessary which can help them climb economically in America.
