I can honestly say Engineers contribute more to society then we do. But who has the potential to eat more is another question.

Isn't that the problem though brother? We have men in suits who golf for a living, making hundreds of millions of dollars while others make the product.

I say enjoy now because I truly believe one day human beings will wake up from this nonsense way of doing things.

The reason why Engineering majors don't run shyt is because they aren't shot callers. They aren't strong people at all.

Brains and GPA don't amount to a good leader. I don't think an Engineer could even run a Taco bell. All the employees would probably punk his ass, and not do anything.

Then the engineer would then design the entire system to be automated and replace you punk ass motherfukkers:ufdup: You dont believe that machines can make you tacos:youngsabo:

Hey look they're Asian too.

Those darn Chinese, are just too smart. How dare they have a strong scientific background :troll:

I think ultimately technology will come to a point where a large majority of government officials and company executives will need to be scientifically literate or at least vaguely familiar with follow prerequisites:

If you are good at the maths and sciences, the best thing you can do, especially if your a minority (its actually a good decision for all regardless of race but I want to speak on minorities aspect of things) is get into the engineering or science based fields of work. There are many scholarships available for minorities if they want to pursue the scientific fields as well as a serious demand for science and engineering fields since america cant produce enough of them. Speaking from my experience at a 10,000+ person corporation, companies like to be diverse because its a very positive position to proclaim in the business community. We have black engineering societies at work (did at college too) , where prominent black people from all levels of the company participate, creating great networking opportunities. And this is promoted heavily in the company.

Are you out of your mind? Engineers run the 2nd most powerful country in the world.

Engineers don't run the multinationals.

China is a dictatorship and a technocracy. it's different. Plus, a engineering degree is vastly more prestigious in China than any other degree.

I'm not saying all engineers are weak people, but there is trend. they tend to be introverted and non-confrontational. Those traits don't translate well to leadership.

Engineers may make the products, but it's the salesforce that puts up those revenue numbers. Engineers are nothing without the sales men and women. Sales is always the most important part of the company.

I agree and not to derail the thread, but STEM majors should look into LSAMP. Every school should have that program. Helps with funding for REU programs and graduate school:kobe:

I think more of us engineers need to get our Sales and Communication skills up. Once we can do that, we can stop complaining about how business people/ sales people don't do shyt. Selling a product is no joke, and while it may not seem to be as important as making the product, try convincing someone to buy your product without the help of a salesperson.

Im trying to get by business awareness up so I can be on both sides of the product, which should double my paycheck, and save my company and clients costs.

Engineers lost. I studied some pseudo business major and make more money than all of my engineering friends and have a clearer path to clearing 200k in a few years. The only math I took in college was some watered down statistics course.

Engineering is a very middle class degree. Middle America type folks go gaga for engineers and don't respect people who push around money for a living but the people who really control capital are Econ, Business, and Liberal Arts majors with MBAs and JDs who use engineers to produce widgets.

I'm not saying that engineers are prohibited from running businesses, being investment bankers, sitting on F500 boards, or truly having power and influence, but these degrees require too much work for salaries that typically top out at 100k/year.

Nonsense :heh:

You seem to be insecure about your pseudo business major :mjpls:

Aren't you some low Ivy/Duke alum who does i-banking in Charlotte

I bet there are engineering grads from your school doing more "powerful/influential" things than you :ehh:, even in finance which is your industry

You used to post on Autoadmit right? Did you know the guy who coded the site is worth like $50-100M now? He was a CS major at MIT and made millions coding for a startup that went big
Oh and he's URM (black) :shaq:
Oh and he's probably about your age, not even 30 yet :shaq:

Not saying that this story or your stories prove anything but :stopitslime: at trying to discredit engineering :troll:

:whoa:

Like I said, an engineering major doesn't prohibit people from going into finance and making a lot of money, but the effort involved in obtaining an engineering degree seems like a waste if some schmuck with an econ degree was able to get your same position

All due respect, you're wrong. It's not a problem, and it will never change, at least not while capitalism is the norm.

I'm assuming you're an engineer, one of the guys that 'makes the product'. If so I'm not surprised you see things that way. But the 'division of spoils' is not unfair. Not if you have an understanding of how capitalism works.
