with beats from Primo, Dilla, Hi-Tek, Pete Rock, and guest appearances from Rakim, Q-Tip, Kendrick, Mary J Blige & a posthumous ODB on the album it seems like it coulda been a classic. but I ultimately found it disappointing
I think Busta still hiiiiiiighly overestimates the value of his fake Coke Dealer/Gangster raps. I'm sure some people are impressed by that, but not nearly as many as would be impressed by some real creative actually bouncy fun animated 'Hands Where My Eyes Can See'/'Gimme Some More'/'Dangerous'/'Party Is Goin' On Over Here'/'Break Yo Neck'/'Courvosier'/'Touch It'/Look At Me Now' type joints again. His only attempts on here in that vein are maybe that Bell Biv Devoe track but that one just doesnt work, and 'YUUUU' which is cool but its not enough
His deeper album cuts with the more serious raps and depth have always been dope, and he holds that aspect greatly here. I'm glad to see thats grown, thats the maturity & development. But far as I'm concerned, there's barely a fun song on this entire album, and that was Busta's best lane.
His best rapping on this album by far is 'Look Over Your Shoulder' which he absolutely kills, its amazing, but it's been leaked for 2 years already. Not to say it shouldn't be on the album, it should, obviously its a crowning jewel, but it needs more new tracks on that caliber since we already heard it for 2 years. That verse was actually what built my interest in this album, thinking that he might rap on that level all over this project and finally really get his flowers like he truly deserves. So the fact that its the only song of that caliber here and its already 2 years old at this point (actually recorded 4 years ago) is kinda disappointing even while its great.
I'm also disappointed at the number of so called "features" that are just samples from old songs here: ODB, M.O.P., Pete Rock, and Bel Biv Devoe all listed as features but are actually all just old samples. Especially when he has actual unreleased songs with ODB. And I'm sure he coulda got M.O.P. Pete or BBD to contribute something new and fresh.
The intro is tight, and especially the Rakim verse, but the random switch to being a cover of a old Nas song feels kinda weird to be the intro to his whole album. Lowkey I could do without half the Chris Rock skits, it drags on and loses its novelty. 'Purge' is fire but is only 1 minute. 'Master Fard Muhammad' is dope, but that Hi-Tek beat would been crazier with less of Terrace Martin's smoothjazz sax in my opinion. 'Look Over Your Shoulders' is amazing as already stated, and 'Dont Go' with Q-Tip is beautiful. The rest is aight but thats kinda it for me
