Always
Honestly you shouldn't be wearing suits or buying them if you don't know the game. It's deep. I haven't seen much good advice in this thread. I have a tailor.

Trust me when I say rent one. Doesn't matter what it looks like if it fits well. Don't wear a three piece or a bow tie. Black suit. Black neck tie. White shirt. Black belt. Black shoes. Don't wear sneakers. Animal print. Textured solids.shoes with a buckle. Or square toe shoes. Do not wear suspenders.

Get a real leather belt. Not that cheap plastic alloy shyt. Go to Ross or thrift store. They got them for cheap.

If you want to look fly get a nice watch with a real leather band. Square face. Tastefully sized. Again Ross and thrift stores got them for cheap. A second hand watch usually just needs new batteries. Get a vintage tie clip. It should look old. A good cologne will go a long way too.

Also you must wear a tie. This is a formal event. Not a high school dance. Any cheap suit will not last so they're not worth buying. They'll also need to be tailored. That's expensive and it takes hella time.

Go to Mens Warehouse get it tailored in house, you don't have money for much else. Buy a charcoal or navy suit colored suit so you can use it again for job interviews, etc.

Fit, fit, fit...

Other than that you'll be fine. Most people can't tell an expensive suit from an inexpensive suit...whether it's $300 or $3,000. Just make sure that shyt fits right.

thats what i was thinking since the wedding came at at a bad time for me financial shelling out 2 grand on a suit ,20 percent of my life savings not wise in my opinion

Everyone should have atleast two good suits. One for a funeral/job interview, and another for going out/wedding. You can go to men's warehouse, Macy's, or Express and not spend more than $350 tailored for a suit and it'll last you a decade or more.

If you are any body type but fat get the slim fit style. It will pretty much be tailored and look "custom" off the rack.

I am a custom suit guy myself and wear suits 5 days a week. Trust me that the quality of a suit on there is worth the price. They got some for under $300.

DO NOT buy banks, express, or any of those goofy wholesale companies. Their suits look cheap and lazy...

For a wedding I'd suggest a royal blue type suit...

And to another posters point, don't get square toe drest shoes or rock a plastic looking belt.
