I know every case has it's own circumstances but I think countries that went from bad to great should be studied like case studies. How were they able to prosper, how did the political regimes within these countries that made it happen attain power and how were they able to sell the long term vision to their people?
Also, not all Africa is doing bad, it's not a monolith.
I think the history of how different countries and empires were formed and the philosophy of how their systems of government came to be, the circumstances around it, etc should be studied. Study what has worked and what has failed. But for that you need history nerds, who would also be willing to risk a lot.

For the people saying, "They just need to leave Africa alone", why would they do that. Over the past centuries almost every western European country has gotten trillions of dollars worth of free labor from African descent people and trillions (if not more) worth of natural resources for pennies on the dollar. Why would they (the west) stop trying to build there wealth by any means necessary? Because it's the "right thing to do?"
