Interesting. Explain?

The same military science that was used against other ethnic groups in Africa - was also used against the French, British, and Spanish during the Haitian revolution.

Yes - there were other ethnic groups involved in the Haitian Revolution, but the Dahomey was the dominant group in the rebellion.

Dessalines was raised by a Dahomey woman and she was given a state funeral when she died in 1804.

In fact - the Dahomey king sent soldiers to Haiti under the administration of King Henri Christophe.

Christophe was a great believer in discipline. He brought African warriors from Dahomey (present-day Benin), whom he dubbed Royal Dahomets. They served as the primary agents of his authority. Incorruptible and intensely loyal to Christophe, the Dahomets brought order to the countryside.

Many people were dissatisfied with the strictness of Christophe's regime. As productivity and export levels rose, however, the quality of their lives improved in comparison with revolutionary and immediately post-revolutionary days.

You probably the only person on the Coli who's interested in Imperialist History as me. The 1600s - the 1900s are easily the most critical time in history. It's crazy how so many Black people have 0 knowledge of it

Respect breh :ehh::salute:

this movie seems to take place during the Administration of King Ghezo which was around the time that the Dahomey Kingdom gained independence from the Yoruba and began going hard with the slave trade.

The only "freedom fighters" from Dahomey was King Behanzin who waged war against the French and The Haitians from 1791-1820.

Haiti's military and police force was controlled by Dahomey generals until the death of King Henri Christophe in 1820.

This movie seems to focus on the slave-trading era under King Ghezo..... and I see black women kissing europeans in the trailer so I already know this shyt gonna be trash.
Is this a typo or did they go to war with haiti?

My fault... I fixed that.

Haiti is Dahomey.... The Queen Mother of Haiti is a Dahomey woman.

Victoria "Abdaraya Toya" Montou (Circa 1739–1805) was a Dahomey warrior and freedom fighter in the army of Jean-Jacques Dessalines during the Haitian Revolution. She was described as intelligent and energetic, and shared a close relationship with Dessalines and the same hatred toward slavery. The two remained close throughout her life, with Dessalines calling her his aunt.

In 1804 Dessalines became Emperor of Haiti, and he gave Montou the title of Duchess. She was given a state funeral with a procession of eight sergeants and Empress Marie-Claire Heureuse Felicite dressed in black between two non-commissioned officers led the convoy.

That’s cool and all. But that’s not my point. Nor is that what the movie depicts

The movie is. Dahomey wasn’t. But the way they tell the story, makes it pro black

They know 95% of their wealth was built off of Slavery

That White Guilt is eating them alive

@UpAndComing almost all of Dahomey's wealth was due to warring on the people near them and then capturing survivors and selling captives to Europeans as slaves. They were a former vassal State of Oyo, but don't be fooled Dahomey, the Aro Confederacy and Oyo were trade partners of the Europeans and people were the trade.

@BlackJesus there was nothing pro black about Dahomey unless you think destroying Black civilization and communities is pro black. If that is the case then you could also make the argument that drug dealers and gang members are pro black. Read the book "Barrac00n" to see what Dahomey was about.
