There’s an inverse of this argument though. Last season we were told no rookie QB has ever been put in position to succeed more than Caleb due to the alleged weapons he had. This year we’re told the hot boy genius coach is gonna make Caleb an MVP candidate. He keeps getting gassed up by fanboys in the media and then when he fails they cop pleas. Trevor Lawrence used to get that treatment, now Justin Herbert does.Not a single game has been played
First game gonna be really telling. The only teams that have cracked the Flores defense are the Lions and Rams. You have to get the ball out quick over the middle and run the ball effectively. Can Caleb do that? I don’t think so. It’s a home game and the Vikings have bigger QB questions so I think the Bears can win…but I really think this game will tell us how the first half of the season goes for them.

Nah the analytics nerds have been hyping Herbert since he came in the league. He’s the ultimate perfect QB to them. And his fanboys always on twitter talking about if xyz happened Herbert would win lol.

-OC was fired, next OC gone, and a third OC took over play calling duties
-Odunze did not have a good rookie season and was disappointment
-Swift was not a lead RB
-offensive line was abysmal

6 INTs
That was somehow terrible? He did fine as a rookie considering the circumstances.
And I don't know what you meant by "we were told" as if everyone in the media was predicting the same thing. I just looked at ESPN's predictions on the 2024 standings and they had the Bears finishing 4-13. Anyone with sense knew that an Eberflus team wasn't doing anything. Just having a collection of talent means little if the coaches are bad.
They've played zero games under Ben Johnson. We don't know that they're going to look like. How about letting the season the start and waiting about 4 games.

It takes more than training camp and preseason for an offense to gel. We have 17 games to form an opinion. Just wait. No one should have their mind made up on how he'll look in August.
Ravens had the worst pass defense early in season. They had the best pass defense late in the season. New coaches and new systems can take time to work.

Rome Odunze was wide open all season and Caleb either didn’t see him or often threw uncatchable passes.
The blame for Odunze’s unremarkable rookie season lies heavily on Caleb’s shoulders.
