These dudes like E-40 (production is second to none) just hate his raps and Ghostface Killa so many rocks with them and I can’t understand why. These dudes are legends in almost everyone’s eyes. It would be torture if I was tied up and forced to listen E-40, i would have them off me right then and there.

Gotdamn.....:heh:

So you are saying regional bais aren’t a real thing?

no, of course it exists
i'm just saying it shouldn't define a persons talent
e40 being wack or nice to me should have nothing to do with
me not knowing whats going on in the Bay area

Kurupt doesn't flair to that extent breh. We not talking Big Daddy Kane / Snoop / Camron level of swag and charisma, its Kurupt. And I did say I give Kurupt the esge over the two just that I feel its hypocritical to mock the East coast lyrical style as rappity rap then place a nikka on a pedestal who does the same thing. I still dont know wtf he was talking about on New York New York

To yo 2nd point I disagree as well. Redman Method Man Busta Rhymes and Ol Dirty were all stars on the East coast and bigger stars overall than E 40 so humor on the mic and during performances / videos is something enjoyed out East albeit in doses.

Deck is a lyricist/rappity rapper,Kurupt is an emcee. vocally, deliver wise you can't just hop on a mic and do what Kurupt does, the man has a way with words like no other in his prime, and even his not so prime. Think you proved my point with the second part,Redman and Busta don't get nearly the respect they deserve as emcees imo. Redman gets even less as he is not from NY. I would argue against Meth as he is not seen as animated/comical as much as Busta,Red and 40 ,and he is not. As an emcee 40 is probably right up there if not better stylistically,so I must assume there is a bias. If your point is the bias goes both ways, fair enough. I do think there may be a lack of familiarity with 40 being he's from the west coast, maybe he just isn't heard as much,or given the same chance and vice versa. People should refrain from offering up opinions calling the man trash if that is the case:martin:

I'm a black man born in Camden, NJ. Just off the top of my head I've either purchased music from or seen perform live: Ras Kass, Tha Liks, The Coup, Eiht and CMW, Paris, The B.U.M.S., Xzibit, Defari, Planet Asia, NWA and all solo acts, Dogg Pound, Warren G, Spice 1, Hiero crew, Pharcyde, W.C., Whoridas, Pac, Cypress, Phil Da Agony, Krondon, Encore, Mykill Miers, 40 Thevz, Kam, Saafir, Dilated, Jurassic 5, Peanut Butter Wolf, Kutmaster Kurt, .....I could go on and on. Not to mention the occassional single spin I would give to cats I got put up on solely through hip-hop mags or Rap City like 3x Krazy or say Menace Clan.

The weirdest thing about all this is that so many cats are actually equating E-40 with the embodiment of west coast hip-hop. Like if we say we don't fukk with this dude, the fireworks, disses, and coastal wars start popping off.

Two of my top 5 favorite MCs are west coast Mcs, and Eiht at one time was in that list for me. For the younger posters, I can all but guarantee I own or bought more music from west coast acts than some of you dudes who live in Cali have, and I was born and raised on the east coast. Yet we dont fukk with one nikka out of a state of millions and its like we called your momma a bytch.

Am I supposed to start dissing everybody out west cuz yall never fukked with Wise Intelligent or The Artifacts?

Well you have to consider 40 has outlasted all of his peers, and been relevent to multiple generations. He is essentially in the same stratosphere as Nas, Jay-Z on the west coast. You have to get out of your head that he is on the level of Wise Intelligent or The Artifacts:martin:

Deck is not a lyrical miracle nikka who drones on aimlessly hes a legit mc. His rep comes mostly from the aforementioned Triumph verse which is just battle rap no more or less.

Wu Tang is a 9 piece outfit and when they drop singles they usually put people in the lane they were best at and as such he was put in the set-off / battle rap lane which mislead people into believing he wasn't a storyteller or lacked content. He is limited without question but he's not
in K-Rino / Canibus territory either

Check these verses if u think otherwise.

So tell me, how do you measure relevance???

He's had multiple big radio records, that you could even argue are classic records in Choices,Nope,Tell Me When to Go. Plenty of features among the most relevent artist of this current generation. Mentions from some of the most relevant people in the culture and outside the culture from Kendrick,Jay-Z,Beyonce. He is very much culturally relevant, maybe not in the normal sense where people mean outside the culture with sales,tv, etc.

But you have to do the math, this is relevancy in multiple generations, relevancy in the 90's,in the mid 2000's with the Hyphy movement, and today.

Nah playboi, not "West Coast Hip Hop" he was/is the embodiment of Bay Area Mobb Music to this day. One of the reason a lotta cats take the shyt so seriously because it was their first introduction to trap/hustler/pimp shyt. Esp cats out here in the Bay. They grew up on dude and been rockin with him all the way into 2018 since they were youngins...

Now if you don't like E-40 or think he always been wack then cool, that's your opinion and I dig it, but muthafukkaz take this rap shyt personal, lol. Bruh, we old enough to remember how shyt was before this internet shyt, esp if you was in college or the military. How it was when everyody rode they favorite artists from their hometown until the wheels fell off. Coastal Dorm Wars BEFORE Pac n Big:russ:

NY nikkaz ready to go to blows up in the dorms if you talked down on 36 chambers and Illmatic:mjlol:

Tell a Miami cat you didn't fukk with Luke or any of that Booty Shaking shyt:martin:

DC nikkaz.....fukk THAT Go Go shyt!!!!!...:pachaha:

Down South......No Limit is HORRRRRRRIBLE!!!!!!!!!.......:bustback:

Bay Area....Too Short and E-40 can't rap!.......:bustback:

Man cats have ALWAYS took this shyt seriously its just online now:snoop:

Your homeboy from Detroit, I'm sure he tried to put you on artists from there. My roomate was from Flint and you couldn't say NOTHIN bad about Top Authority, he claimed they was the rawest nikkaz out.

Me personally, I listened to all....From Pure Poverty to Save You All(red tape) to Whut Thee Album original purchases....shyt, our radio station in the Bay played EVERYTHING back then. Sway, Davey D, wake up show...Rock Dis Funky, Blow Your Mind, Riiiot/No Complex, Here We Go, Word Is Life....We had NO BIAS, played it all.

Another thing is it was sooooooo many different sounds from different cities back then that was HITTIN, it was hard for a lotta cats to get into the music or really discover the shyt until later on, had to hustle and be on top of your rap/hip hop game when all them shyts was droppin. It was work if you loved this shyt.

E-40 is the "face" of a particular sound cats done had love for for damn near 25 years....Yeah, a lotta cats done called him wack, don't like his sound or voice but the same can be said for those who don't like Doom, Ghost, Kool Keith, Sadat, ODB...etc.

I can definitely respect this post, ya undadig? :russ:

But seriously, that was probably the realist response so far in this thread. Everything you said was on point and I can relate. And you're right, my Detroit homie was always trying to put me up on local flav he came up on. I had another homie in college that damn near had the whole No Limit catalogue. Same time I was trying to put them up on cats like Sunz of Man and Last Emperor. And we were all involved in our college radio mix show, so we had crates and crates of records dating back to the 80s from the free record pools from all over the country.

But respect for coming knowledgeable AND reasonable in your reply.

:salute:
