Yeah this the prototypical “east coast slapper” right here that a lot of these nikkas grew up on ... a soul sample and some hollow dusty percussion is golden to them so shyt outside that motif is questionable... so I understand where a lot of them are coming from with their preferences

you don't have to be from where an artist is from for them to reach you with their talent
i'm not particularly a fan of E40 but its not because i don't understand his slang
or where he clicks regionally, i just don't like some of his songs, period! does that make him wack? no

i listen to a lot of Nicolay and he's making music on the other side of the planet from me
yet i dig his production and vibe, i don't have to be from there to get it

Kuruption was never called a classic bruh ... and Lyrical Miracle =\= Wack ... it’s just a description of a style so I don’t even know what you are complaining about ... west coast nikkas don’t run around calling wutang wack it’s just not something that’s a conversation like that

This point has some validity to it ... but that shyt was not nearly as prevelant on the west coast as it was on the east ....Nas for example changed his whole content from Illmatic to It Was Written ...returning to game as a newly reinvented drug kingpin named Esco telling mob tales over godfather sampled production

E-40 was never my thing, but I can see why nikkas would fukk with him. The only song I like by E-40 is actually a Mystikal song called "Here we go", and the first time I heard it I was high.


But again I can see why nikkas fukk with E-40.... but till this day I still don't understand the Mac Dre thing though. I've listened to a bunch of his songs and I just don't get it.
But I'm not from the Bay, so it's not for me to get.

While I can def feel to an extent the analogy of trying to explain to a sunny weather California living dude what it's like walking through a block in NY during the winter time, hoodied up with some Timbs on bumping the Wu or similiar East Coast music, there's more to it than just saying it's a regional thing. I've never met anybody out here on the east coast that's into hip-hop that just stays regional and doesn't fukk with West Coast shyt, and I never met anybody out here who fukked with 40 outside of one of my homies back in college who was originally from Detroit.

shyt, two of my top 5 favorite MCs of all-time are from Cali (Ras Kass and Boots), and Boots is from the Bay. I can rattle off 20 or 30 acts in a matter of seconds off the top of my head from Cali that are contemporaries of 40 that I and most people from my era fukk with, so it's more than it being a regional thing.

I guess if you're like me and don't see, or more importantly HEAR what the hype is around this nikka, no amount of explaining it is gonna make us get it.
