Play 60 for an online only game brehs. :skip:

I can proudly say that I haven't bought a COD game since COD4 MW.
People have been paying $60 and monthly subscription fees for online only games for a minute.
I been telling everyone. Physical media is going to disappear and a majority of our entertainment is going to be stripped down to the bare minimum and subscription based.

thing is people buy a lot of these online-only games, like Siege or PUBG, thinking they will get support for years to come. but we all know COD typically gets thrown in the bushes a year later when the next one drops

Treyarch never let me down. I'm copping. I just wish they scaled back the specialists and went back to pick 10 though. BO2 had a perfect create a class. They need to listen to the community on this and make some changes before the beta.

As a rusher I kinda like the manual healing since I don't have to stop, hide, then get back to the action.

We're still a long ways off from physical media disappearing altogether, as there are still tons of places here that don't get internet reliable enough to go digital only for everything (not to mention more providers introducing data caps), and the industry's business model still heavily leans on pre-orders, which still seem to be driven by physical media and physical media retailers.

But you are spot fukking on with the everything being a subscription thing in the near future. A company I used to work for switched their business offerings to leaning more towards subscription based stuff that leads with a free trial, and couldn't contain their happiness with the results.

I tend to disagree with the first part of your post here.
This was the narrative Sony stans (and the majority of gamers to keep it 100) put out there when Microsoft tried to launch the XB1 as an online only console.
I've never seen (or looked for TBH, but in this case the burden of proof is on the person making the statement) data to support the "mass" amount of people who have 4K HDTVs and an XB1 but do not have access to reliable internet.

Obviously, this isn't the be all end all of research on average ISP speeds, but check this out.

Fixed broadband speeds are getting faster — what’s fastest in your city?

With all the advancements in fiber being laid to get people faster speeds, along with pricing coming down a bit for the higher end packages, we're still averaging a little over the realistic minimum for online gaming, let alone continuously downloading 40-80GB games. This is also keeping in mind that more people are taking gigabit internet when available and affordable. Until higher tier broadband packages are both more affordable (for example, I live in Phoenix and Cox doesn't provide gigabit internet every here yet, and it isn't exactly inexpensive), and available in more places like random flyover states, the reality of going fully digital is still a dream.

Even once we get past that, we'd need to get retailers on board with a fully digital marketplace. That shyt ain't happening, as evidenced by the fact that the only pricing difference between digital and physical at this point is that the digital versions go on sale more often.

And then on top of THAT, we'd need gaming culture as a whole to change. Gamestop ain't out here trading shyt in and selling it back to themselves. shyt, in most threads about new games, you have at least one post with someone dropping the :patrice: while wondering if they should blow through a game to get max trade-in value. There's a far larger portion of the gaming community than we can all imagine basically depend on trade-in values to pick up their next game.

Initial pre-orders are also strong through week one of reveal, and above last year

Bu bu sales are gonna suffer because there's no campaign :mjlol:

Imagine when the actually reveal gameplay for their Battle Royale? :picard:

Yeah I saw that it was the most watched reveal in COD history and pre orders are above last years, and last year's were above the previous years. COD isn't going anywhere. :yeshrug: WW2 is the 2nd highest selling game this year, even though it came out last year.
