Punk probably wasn't right for the *type* of top guy they want.

He's an A-minus as opposed to A-plus player....

This idea that there has to be one guy at the top of the mountain needs to die

With so much weekly content, 12 plus PPV's a year plus special events, all of the extra shyt they now have to do for the network, their schedule, post-roids era injury liabilities () etc....it seems like this modern era almost requires multiple people at the top rotating in and out as necessary.

But alas....

As others have said Punk wasn't/isn't the the guy to represent the WWE brand outside of wrestling. He's not the type to visit sick children at the hospital, visit the troops at a military base, chop it up on GMA, Kelly & Michael, etc. Even when Austin was the the top face as the anti-authority rebel he was still the type to do those things. Despite being a wife beater and everything he seems like the type that would have a beer with you at your local bar whereas Punk is on some anti-social, elitist, Straight Edge tip.

Punk's gimmick is him. He's a miserable a$$hole 24/7. Even his best friends can't sugarcoat how much of a prick he is to be around. Dude was NEVER EVER going to be the singular top guy with his dikkhole attitude he brought everywhere with him.

Punk is the type of guy that if he's say at Walmart or Disney World with his family and a parent saw him and asked politely if their child could take a picture with him he would be like. Cena, Bryant, Shemaus, etc would go ahead and smile and just do it. Even if they didn't feel like it they would just charge it to the game or politely decline your request.

That's a lie punk was always doing stuff that he had to do . He did the military bases, make a wish , went on tv shows and actually had crossover appeal and requests. Orton who was a horrible jerk and multiple wellness policy failures got pushed huge . I don't mind Vince pushing who he wants as WWE . His big problem was giving the fans too big a voice it seems so some refuse to go along with anything now . Back in the day I was a hitman fan as DX and Austin started their ascents I was disappointed when he got screwed in 97 or had Austin shytting on Bret. But I went along for the ride today people aren't willing to do that

He DID them, but also bytched about having to do them, usually to the people he was visiting, which is not what you want your talent doing on PR tours. Go look up just about any Punk media interview (especially if it was a radio/internet one that lasted more than 2 minutes)from the Summer of Punk on. He was bytching and moaning about all the extra work he had to do in almost every interview. Why would you want a guy like that in that position?
