Can a player be considered an all time great at their position if they had no contemporary or equally great rival in their era?

Michael Jordan did not compete against a Great Shooting Guard for his entire career. The best he played against were players like Reggie Miller and Mitch Richmond. He was regularly playing in the finals against cats like Old ass Danny Ainge, Jeff Hornacek, and Hersey Hawkins

That still doesn't take away from his greatness.

What about Clyde? He wasn’t valid?

MJ was kinda like an Hybrid…. I would put Dominique Wilkins and Charles Barkley as equals. They guarded each other.

A level of separation is necessary for dominance :manny:. Its not like you are playing one on one or only play against your position. If you are impacting the game at a high level, you are great.

This is what happens with time

Majority of people couldn’t fathom that Clyde was seen as every bit as good as Jordan IF NOT BETTER but less marketed. The 92 Finals was supposed to decide who was the best shooting guard in the league. The only problem was it ended up being so lopsided people moved on quickly from the notion :yeshrug:

If you go a school or job with nothing but 9’s, 10’s and end up dating 7. And there’s more men than women working there so you got heavy competition. And I work at a job which 3’s and 4’s and bag 12 because I’m the only guy working there. Does that mean my game is stronger than yours?

You literally just named HOFs and said he played no one. Not to mention other HOFs life Clyde, Dumars, amongst others. You just like to see yourself type right

It does, it's one of the few valid arguments for having lebron over him
