As far as In Da Club level though, I'd say NLU comes the closest as of recently but still no cigar.
NLU had more organic legs to it

In Da Club was just the peak saturation level the industry could muster

In Da Club had 5th grade kids sneaking onto class computers to watch the video on MSN.com

Kids know about it to that extent before they’re leaving their house because of the long arm of the mainstream industry promotional vehicle

But I walked by dive bars in LA K-Town that threw on NLU, after promo cycle, and the energy shift inside was palpable enough to feel it while walking by on the sidewalk…. And I’m not even into the song like that

The reason Kendrick doesn’t fit this bill is because his songs are displays of Kendrick’s unique sonic signature (vocally) and more reflective of his brand of songs rather than an example of high achievement contemporary excellence
