In Haitian culture it is refer to as Sol. Or Susu to Haitian Americans.
Mexicans have a name for this too.
Basically there's 5 households, and 4 of them will end up paying the rent/mortgage/bills/car note one month, then the next month is someone else's turn, and they just rotate.
Helps them save and pay off houses and cars.
Looks weird as fukk, as far as money in and money out (I used to work bank fraud) but it's legit.

Somalians in the Midwest (Iowa, Minnesota) do that too. They pool their money and open businesses
Even in a smaller scale. If a group of 30 people put up $1000 a month. That's 1000 x 30 = $30,000 a month. There you can use that money as a down payment for a storefront, wash rinse, and repeat for everyone else

If you're AA, your people had a variation of this.
During the Great Migration , in the destination cities they would create Mutual Aid groups / Social Clubs based on either the state, county, or city they were from. Sometimes the church their families attended back home.
Helped them to adjust and transition in the big city with people that they had kin or close ties to.
I believe I read about a similar practice being used. Going to check what I read.

I've heard examples of brothers and sisters doing this on a small scale with that PPP hustle.. Not everyone blew through that fraud money on some bullshyt.. Some actually made good moves with the cash..
