I'm not sure that this was initially the desirable end-goal, to distance themselves from their men, but with the support and guidance from the media, this seems to be where things are heading.
Of course not all, there are some great Black women out there still fighting against racism and inequality and still fighting for Black empowerment and Strong Black Families. But on the other hand, there are a large portion of Black women, some knowingly and some just being sheep that have bought into there are not many good black men out there. With support and guidance from the news media, they are successfully beginning to separate themselves into another entity of the Black race.
When I say guidance from the media, you can see it in phases. Initial Black women rode the coattails of white women in the women lib movement. White men started dating outside of their race more and White women now pick and choose their battle wisely. Leaving Black Women the carry the brunt of that fight. Now for the last 20, 30 years, the independent woman has been the thing to be amongst Black Women. "You don't need a man for anything." Shortly after that began, those independent chants turned into screams of "There are no Good Black Men" Networks like NBC and other provided national platforms for these women.
The past couple of years, it's been Black Woman are great movement, not that some aren't. But the undertone has been, we "Black Women" are great. Black girls rock. We're are most educated than our men, we earn more and we're better suited to whole higher position in the American hierarchy.. So with the coupling of We are great and there are no Good Black Men, It comes across as a competition state we rock and Black men are no good, to prove to White America who they should trust and reward.
Now the push for Black Women to date outside of their is at an All-time high. Movies and articles praising and glamorizing White Male-Black Woman relationship are everywhere. There's entire genre of books dedicated to Black women dated outside of their race. And the Prince Harry engagement has really given a new energized push to Black Women desires to be desirable to other races of men.
It seems a lot of Black women aren't as concern with Black empowerment as whole as they are with Black Women acceptance in American Society. I'm not saying all are knowingly are separate, I believe more than half are sheep. I think it takes a very intelligent person man or woman to see the bigger picture in all of this. Even with this recent Alabama election, the headline was Black women saved the day, though Black men voting at nearly the same percentage.
My question, if Black women for most part successfully separate themselves from the vilified Black men, high far in this country can they rise? Can they transcend racism lines and barriers?
