I would say from true blue Hip-Hop heads Wu-Tang Forever was the END of an era as the last true rugged mainstream crossover joint with Triumph & yet at the same time the BEGINNING for the rest of the world in their newfound love of Wu-Tang Clan. So for the OG heads after Forever I think they felt that their was a fall off (myself included) while the rest of the world (dusty white kids globally) was just starting to really dig into Wu-Tang very late. I think that’s where the misconception comes in that Wu-Tang Clan was just vastly overrated. It really derived from the fact that they were so groundbreaking that the rest of the universe was late to the show. Wu-Tang Clan was literally THE reason that Hip-Hop crossed over globally to the level it did. That is fact. Remarkable :wow:

Will say, for sure, almost every white person I knew in the 90s and early 00s that was heavily into hip hop loved Wu Tang. That's true. But they was really fans. Like any musician or band with a recognizable logo there's gonna be posers rocking it

But it's wild to pretend this is limited to Wu. Show me any hip hop act that can draw big crowds in 2023, regardless what era they from, that don't have a heavy percentage of white folks in the crowd. You can't do it.

To my point Wu-Tang Clan really was a driving force in that crossover appeal from white kids universally. There was always white kids who loved hip-hop and was down from way back but I’m talking about that universal shift. Wu-Tang was the driving force.

Liquid Swordz is the most "Wu-Tang" album they made, solo or group... Even more so than Enter the 36. Dark and gritty sound scapes with sharp lyrical flossing(Duel, Living in the World Today, Labels, ), story telling(Gold, Killah hills, Cold World), street shyt( Investigative Reports, Gotcha Back) and depth(Swordzman/Bible). The only thing is the Priest track "Sacrament" would have fit better as an ending rather than "B.I.B.L.E."

If you're a true Wu fan, the only competing solo is Linx.

I mean outside of a few joints I never got the love for Wu as a collective. NEVER.

Love ODB and Method Man though

ODB and Meth are the most mainstream … you’re a rap casual no shame in that …

Am i retarded or are you talking about clothes and everything OUTSIDE the booth. The fukk? Talking bout noone knows what charisma means over n over and your bringin up how rakim dress about a discussion of charisma on THE MIC.

I used kane and rakim cause gza LITERALLY rhymes just like them. Im not talking about how a dude dress n act outside the booth man. Idk why you even brought that up about charisma on the MIC

Saying he has no charisma in a way that hurts the album, while your idea is “how charming kane is:wrist:

And how cool rakim dresses.

Im happy kane gets you clickin your heels and you think ra dress cool because your obviously infatuated with image before substance
Means we aint even close to talking about the same thing.

Gzas style is 5% seriousness

His draw is his wordplay/lyrics, while snoops is his image, odb his wildness, ras 5% flow and kyrics, kanes presence on the mic

Like he didnt get verse of the year with protect ya neck

His name is .. LITERALLY… THE GENIUS.

What itd be stronger if he had a more active personality? The album is about lyrics and beats creating a vibe. Whether the other members were liked more overall or maybe had a better album is irrelevent as they got like 10 classics between them and this certainly is.
Yes, nikka you are retarded.

People aint singing along to 2pac songs and ""Paid In Full" 30 years later because of the fukking clothes they were wearing, dummy

Snoop aint making millions selling every product under the sun and having old ladies swoon over him with Martha Stewart over his clothes, dummy.

It's because they are LIKEABLE and MAGNETIC personalities.

Their personas make them stand out in a room.

If GZA, walks in a room with those other nikkaz like Pac, Kane, Rakim, etc. . ., aint nobody gonna even know or ask who he is.

He doesn't have "star" qualities. That matters in everything in life, even in sports, where Tim Duncan was always seen as boring, even as he was winning titles.

There is a way to be charismatic on records. Pac did it. Biggie did it. Snoop did it. Drake does it.

It's why bytches love their music, while if you put "Liquid Swords" on, 95% of them would fall a sleep in the car.

I like a lot of "Liquid Swords", but I'm a old dude who just loves hip-hop, but for the average listener, that shyt is just boring, cold non-exciting shyt.

It's like watching C-Span or something.

From the days of being a Joey bumping Wu to a grown ass marsupial growing greys, I never for the love of me understood why Liquid Swords is put on such a pedestal.

Each time I listen to the album back and forth, I come up with the same thoughts:

  • The album is boring as hell
  • The theme didn't quite grab me compared to OB4CL
  • The beats just missing something
I just don't get it :dwillhuh:. Am I'm misguided, smooth brained, or lost in the sauce because for the love of me I always thought this project was overrated as hell? Can a Wu head help me understand the madness and give me insight on why Liquid Swords is considered one of the best Wu albums, if not the best Wu album of all time :mindblown:

The same nikkas that hype liquid swords are the same ones who say GZA killed 50 Cent on paper plates...he's better than capadonna, u god and masta killa... he's above Deck on the totem pole because his name rhymes with RZA and ODB is his cousin... in other words.. that wu tang stimulus ain't nothing to fukk wit
