From the days of being a Joey bumping Wu to a grown ass marsupial growing greys, I never for the love of me understood why Liquid Swords is put on such a pedestal.

Each time I listen to the album back and forth, I come up with the same thoughts:

  • The album is boring as hell
  • The theme didn't quite grab me compared to OB4CL
  • The beats just missing something
I just don't get it :dwillhuh:. Am I'm misguided, smooth brained, or lost in the sauce because for the love of me I always thought this project was overrated as hell? Can a Wu head help me understand the madness and give me insight on why Liquid Swords is considered one of the best Wu albums, if not the best Wu album of all time :mindblown:

As a Wu casual, I like it more than any other solo album from any of them. Shadowboxin' is probably a Top 20 hip-hop record of all time. Just flames.

I'll be glad for you to post examples of music from their solo careers better than what this album has to offer though, I'm all ears

  • OB4CL- Broke away from the whole martial arts theme, for a more mafioso theme. The beats stand the test of time. The fact that RZA had the gall to use John Woo movie samples to go with the flow of the album still blows my mind. Overall, it felt like a movie..plus the purple tape breh :wow:
  • Return of the 36 Chambers-Screw the haters, but looking back at ODB's solo...it revolutionizes the game in more ways than one. It was like a Flava Flav solo with bars and better production. I can throw that album on and listen to it from opening to ending.
  • Ironman- Its not Supreme Clientele, but another album that I would bump over Liquid Sword as it's smooth as hell. Like it had this fresh sound to it, compared to the old Wu sound. Daytona 500>>>>>>>
These three albums alone blows Liquid Swords out of the water.

It's definitely in the Top 3 Wu solo albums, but I agree that it's wild overrated. A great 4.5/5 mics album, but not impeccable :manny:

Exactly. If anything, its a good album but I remember a den of "real hip hop" cacs straight up shytted on me because I did not get on my knees and pray to the fukking album. I mean, I get it...it's lyrical but its a prime example of "lyrical spiritual" nonsense that becomes boring and dated:francis:

One thing I can say about Liquid Swords is that Method was in his entire bag throughout the album. Dude was snapping like Snoop on 2001 :whew:

he was

ironic thing is, Meth stepped up even more post that though

he got better as an emcee on his Tical 2000 album; although that album had one too many skits

but as an emcee, he stepped up big time

but make no mistake about it, Liquod Swords is all GZA's show

that man was a wizard w/ word
