They didn't adapt and for some reason rappers started only shouting out cac brands.

I think about that shyt a lot how they never really seem to give promo to Black fashion brands.

Sean John and RocaWear came and put an end to FuBu.

Fashion also changed. People were dressing a bit more maturely. The jersey went out of style. The graphic tees and jeans with silly designs went out of style. There were brands like ENYCE, Ecko, Azzure and Akademiks that had better colors, better graphic tees and button down shirts that were less street and more casual.

I don’t think anyone was wearing Fubu after early 2002.

They had a decent run, first time I heard anyone say they flopped.
This, they were definitely not a flop, they died eventually but they did the opposite of flop.

Im guessing it must be younger people thinking they died instantly, because as kids we wore the shyt out of some Fubu back then during their run.

Our fashion tastes evolved though as we got older. And they had a lane I wasn't going to continue wearing indefinitely, plus I don't recall seeing them in stores as much after a while so :manny:

Because Gucci sells classic shít, along with their more currently fashionable clothes. You can buy the same GUCCI loafers today, that you bought in 1982.
Facts. They have classic sh!t as well as trendy styles. The trendy sh!t comes and goes but they have that stable of classic clothes.

I think it also needs to be said that brands that cater to the young urban community just don't last. FUBU, Karl Kani, Cross Colours, Rocawear, Sean John, Baby Phat, Ecko, Akademics etc. Gucci, LV, etc had a known name before the hip hop culture was even born.

Trendy was the word I was looking for.

I think Sean John was probably the only one that could have lasted a bit longer.

That funny, with how Diddy ended up

But to your point, when your brand is based off personality, it’ll be hard pressed to ever last. That’s why rapper clothing brands always fall off, hip hop moves too fast. Karl Kani for me was the one I thought could carry on further bc of its overall aesthetic. It had that grown feel already

Edit: having said that, why aren’t brands like Avirex and Pelle being discussed? Is Avirex black owned? The leather game has endured due to high quality

Big azz names, faces, and logos on apparel = tacky.

I say the same thing about luxury cac brands too like Louis Vuitton with their logos all over their shyt before anyone comes here and gives me the….

:mjpls:

I did like some of the Sean John apparel which was a very toned down and more business casual look.

Fubu was grossing $350 million a year for long time... Then, when everyone thought they died here, they was still making international money, putting up hundreds of millions per year

I'm not sure another urban brand did better... And no, I don't count brands partnered with major brands, to be independent
