I will agree with keyshia Cole being shut down, the dream even confirmed it. This is not the case with amerie though like y'all keep making it out to be, amerie was as big as she was gonna get.
Man had she had the production and support Ameria was gonna blow....she was one more hit away.....her career beginning is the ideal blueprint....first album has great street success....second album has a giant single and even more great success ......why wouldn't a label be serious about a third album.........there was money to be made.....I think I know why:francis:

The label wasn't serious about a 3rd album because despite her singles she barley touched gold. In that time Record labels only cared about record sales, not how big a song was in the urban market.

NOLA
Keisha cole(better voice, had a great look)
Amerie
Kerri Hilson
Jennifer Hudson(after the Grammy in dream girls her music career fizzled....I wonder why:francis:)
And probably a host of chicks that are on the cutting room floor that I don't even know about .....or can't think of at the moment. Aside from faith, puff never tried to put out a solo female artist....he thought about it wit the white chick from dannity Kane, but nah and he couldn't make the dirty money girls work.......puff knew the hold on that market......it wasn't profitable
Keyshia Cole was a 2000 version of Monica breh, she wasn't never going to get mass appeal

Amerie has been discussed

Keri Hilson I can't name one song of hers
J hud seems like she made music she wanted to, but people got tired of that shyt.

I guess I don't see it. Even in the 80s and 90s there was only one maybe two rand b females who big time crossover appeal. Whitney and Janet. I'm talking about artist who can sell out world tours like Beyoncé does.

Right, cause Alicia keys never had any problems. She had a strong career that lasted all the way until around 2012
Alicia Keys had backing from Clive Davis, and was in a different lane than Beyonce, she's been in the game since the mid-late 90's and is the prototypical plant:comeon:

yeah, alicia was hella neo-soul when she first came out. got more lauryn hill comparisons than bey comparisons

also can i be petty for a moment and bring up the whole Aaliyah-Dame-Jay love triangle that was happening around the same time Bey was trying to go solo + started dating Jay. all these dead careers (literally and metaphorically) can't be just happenstance :dead:

People have to realize they both was on columbia records..

This was the bottom line period....these companies don't give a fukk who had the beat... If u go double platinum compared to other person going gold, well that platinum artist will keep getting push while the other artist hopefully get 1 spin

No.

When she became my wife I only allowed her to release music on a low-key level. There's no conspiracy here brehs.

That's fukked up man.

And the thing is Beyoncé didn't have any solo albums out at that point in 2002 so it was anyone's guess if she'd go platinum. She could've easily had a solo career like Ralph Tresvant. Crazy in Love along with 1 Thing might've pushed Amerie to platinum status. Do I think she would be as big as Beyoncé is now? No. But Crazy in Love would've done wonders for her career. It's sad it got stolen from her.

Beyonce's best niche/pocket was on the IV album imo, she came into her own there, perfectly cohesive project/not all over the place.

So are y'all say everyone who used a Neptune beat in the early 2000's was stealing someone's style? Rich Harrison had a distinct sound just like the neptunes.

To be honest that's all null and void because Baby boy and Irreplaceable were the other #1 hits from her first two albums and all of those songs sound completely different and have different producers.

So we have three different #1 hits, with three different producers, with three different sounds. The only factor that stays the same in this equation is Beyonce

nahhhh. crazy in love was her first solo hit + w/ jay on it. it was a big pop track. also beyonce's first singles as a lead artist with (hella features) from the movies she was in prior to "crazy in love" were flops compared to amerie's first singles which both charted with no features.

the machine kicked in heavy for beyonces first album. her slow songs on that album also aren't that good and its kinda all over the place production wise. and you see that switch over in production on B'Day which has a way more comprehensive sound as an album and definitely has more drums and instrumentation like the gogo style, way more "pop"

also rich was no where and will never be as big as the neptunes no matter the time. rich was largely regional when beyonce was coming into her own. neptunes were going international. also neptunes have a more diverse style than rich. gogo is regional af.

Chick just wasn't popping like that, I didn't even know "1 Thing" was her song when I first heard it I thought it was Beyonce singing.
