Can we be honest, Bray vs. Orton wasn't the most disappointing match last night

It was a good match and it fit its spot in the card. If it was on later it probably would have been different and longer.

They didnt want every match all night to be a kickout fest

KO and Jericho was disappointing considering the history of those two. It felt more like a RAW main event rather than a WrestleMania match. It wasn't bad by any means, but it didn't live it to the hype.

Bray and Orton lived up to my expectations

.....in which I expected the match to be trash. I was hoping they would find a way to surprise me much like Brock/Goldberg did but nope :francis:. Adding a PowerPoint presentation of the scariest bugs you can find doesn't make a match decent. Uncle Luke should've been added to at least save the match from being complete trash.

There's more to the train wreck last night than ring work. Obviously taker looked awful. The problem for Roman is that we don't care if he can go in the ring (he can) or not. The problem is the overwhelming majority of us don't want him on tv at all at this point. When cena gave us an amazing showing in the hour long London match with HBK in 2007 before backlash, I would imagine he got his due for his performance on :hamster:. The problem is that performance did nothing to make him more interesting or compelling beyond that night. All the problems we've had with Roman going back to late 2014 when they gave him the superstar of the year award and was on tv every week even when he was out hurt are still problems that they haven't bothered to fix. If I were to compare it to the issues that plague a video game, it'd be like if 343 industries never bothered to fix all the online problems with Halo mcc and in 2017 were still trying to push the game with all its problems. Or you could use halo 5 with all the shyt missing when the game launched as another example.

From the looks of it, you hate him because he represents the company's lack of self awareness in them continuously pushing him to the forefront. No matter what he can or can't do between the ropes, he's a lost cause from a crowd connection standpoint.

I can't really disagree with that seniment, though it's kinda funny to read how people (not necessarily you) feel like this about him yet quickly call out him not being able to pull a classic out of Taker (and even 4/10 HHH last year). If there's nothing expected from him, he's not given anything to work with, and he doesn't deliver, is there really a reason to complain in that aspect anymore?

There's other people the audience wants at the top of the card. The fan resentment stems as much from being force fed who they don't want as much as it does from not getting who they do want. Nobody is booked to their strengths honestly. Roman reminds me a lot of Kevin Nash. He's not going to give you classic matches, but he can get it done in the ring. He looks like he belongs in the ring, and he has a strong prescience when booked as the muscle for someone, whether it's a team or managing someone. Nash has a sharp mind and sense of humor that really comes through when he speaks. Roman though, always had more of a silent charisma about him. The more he speaks, the worse off he is.

His demeanor also lends nothing to being booked face. Everything about the guy screams entitled and arrogant heel, yet like John cena being booked as some huge underdog in the ring despite being as big as Ray Lewis, Roman gets long speeches and corny jokes (also material cena gets). The thing about his match quality is that if you are the top guy, you have to be able to produce classic matches based on how memorable they are as moments or how great the in ring action is.

The other issue with his matches is that they have this cloud hanging over them that we all know he's going over even when he's booked as the underdog. He has to start selling people's offense and look like he's in peril when he's almost always the bigger man in his match. He should be presented as the odds on favorite and run over everyone in his path. You can't be super man and the underdog at the same time all the time. It's why John cena failed as the top face. When he was he muscle in the shield, he was presented in this manner. He was the hot tag. He'd come in and flatten people, hitting them fast and hard. Look at how he was booked at the 2013 survivor series, eliminating an entire team. Look at how he was a wrecking ball in the 2014 royal rumble match (a good rumble until all 30 men had entered). He showed up to kick ass and take names. Nothing cute or fancy. He was one of the biggest and baddest guys in the match and acted as such, even tossing Rollins and Ambrose late in the match when he got the shot and hit them both with the :yeshrug::umad: when they were all :stopitslime: on the outside of the ring. If you have a guy rise through the ranks kicking ass and taking names in a role he looks believable and comfortable in, it's much easier to buy into. They had a easy dunk on the fast break with this guy and chose to make it complicated and blew it by going for a 360 windmill instead of a simple tomahawk like it's the dunk contest. Now they have to go full heel probably for the rest of his career. It's hard to see him ever being accepted as a top face now.
