I like them but they need to move away from the medieval fantasy setting because it's getting very bland now

Ehhh..it depends on the game. Games like Octopath Traveller 2 and River City Girls 1/2 looks really good in that style. But I don't like the pixel games just for the sake of being pixelated much. Especially when they're 8-bit level. I mean, you could at least go 16-32+bit pixelation and still have a retro style that looks decent. But 8-bit level is just try-hard status IMO more often that not these days. Like you're just doing too much to be retro, artsy-fartsy to placcate overly nolstagic cats. Miss me with that shyt.

Also, even when done right in games like Octopath Traveller 2, I still hate the fact that they overdo that whole scheme of your characters/party being all small and yet all the villians you fight are like 3-4 times bigger than you and detailed more accordingly, even when you're just fighting regular, human enemies. Why my party gotta be a non-detailed looking dwarf clan fighting "giant" regular-degular ass humans. It looks stupid.

This reminds of the Trails games for the Sky and Crossbell games. Which had a lot of charm to it.

I do agree the 2D-HD kind of feels like Square is relying on it too much. Granted it’s probably more cost effective. As long as the actual game is good I don’t mind.

People actually wanted a Chrono Trigger remake in this style, as opposed to a 3d style.
Always thought it looked horrible. The clash of the HD backgrounds with the pixelated character models is so hard to look at. I was so happy to see "HD2D" trending yesterday and see people finally start to call it out for how ugly it looks.

Na breh. Just remaster it that’s it. I don’t trust square to remake Chrono into a 3d style and not mess it up in someway. 2D-HD could be fine if done right.

What is considered HD2D now was pixel art. It should be called pixel HD2D.
