Them Lo Lifes...
Dre produced the album but didn't find his sound yet so the production on the album wasn't westcoast sounding production
Dre's sound was the electro rock/r&b hip hop (World Class Wrecking Cru) that transitioned from the disco era that migrated into rap which he used, all the way up until Zaggin4life and 100 miles.

There was no definitive west coast sound in the early 80's because most if not ALL production was emulated from NY.

If the 'sound' you speak of..that would be Cold 187 who more than likely influenced Dre to change up his production style when they co-produced Living Like Hustlers.

Dre's music went from having a hardcore edge (100 Miles) to a more smoothed out flow(Deep Cover).

Its kinda evident within the timeline of Dre's production discography

First of all Doc is born and raised in Texas

He Moved to California like a year or 2 before he dropped his debut album

Nothing about Doc's lyrical content on the album was westcoast

Dre produced the album but didn't find his sound yet so the production on the album wasn't westcoast sounding production

So let's please stop calling the album westcoast
Easy E's and NWA's albums had beats similar to The Doc's album. The westcoast sound wasn't and strictly confined to Synths and Funk. Ice T's early sh*t, Too Short's early sh*t, etc.. The G-Funk was just an era, a dope one btw. Just like the era Pete Rock had with the jazz horns. Dope era but I wouldn't say that summed up the entire eastcoast sound.

When I talk about a westcoast sound I'm not just talking about G funk

Ant Banks had a westcoast style of production, Shock G had a sound, Dr Dre, Dj Quik etc

I'm talking pre Chronic/Black Mafia life

He tells you he's from Dallas on one of the songs on the album.

Dr Dre production skills made it that much better.

Its a classic album

PERIOD

Masta Ace is one cynical mahfugga, lol. The nikka was just salty nobody heard his slaughtahouse album where he dissed the west coast beats and tried to go hard with "Jeep Ass Nigguh"

So he was like fucc it, if you can't beat em join em and made some hits! I doubt most people bangin his funk beats at the time even realized he was the same cat from the Juice Crew which is a testament to how commercial the game was starting to become and how dope (versatile) Ace was!

Funny thing is, the west coast diss (skit) on the Slaughtahouse record was actually the dopest shyt on there

It's funny as Ace caught some heat off of Sitting On Chome, forgot all about the Slaughtahouse skit :mjlol:

Edit: I really loved the Slaughtahouse record

Yeah west didn't have it's sound yet.

I think the blueprint for g funk was above the law black mafia album. Dre must of took that shyt home and studied it.
