A person can disagree with me and not be stupid.

I hate neo-Nazis, and they are of course idiots of the highest order, but at least they are clear on who they are enemies of and what they stand for. I prefer that to a moderate's indifference or ignorance . The latter group actually helps create an environment in which the former can gain a foothold and thrive because they muddy the waters of political understanding and action.

Also, when I say "moderate," I'm talking about someone who thinks the answer always or usually lies in the middle between two positions at the poles. I don't mean someone who is in reality undecided on a group of issues.

I stand by my original point that moderates fall into three groups: a) indifferent, b) ignorant, and c) scared to take a stand. They may also lack principles, which I suppose would fall under group A.

see your problem is thinking moderates are indifferent. most of the time moderates just don't fully believe that one side has all the answers.

it is very hard to have moderates in a binary system...
imagine there is a room full of people and there are two choices, turn the lights off or turn the lights on.... some of the people want the lights dimmed, but mostly lit up... some want the lights dimmed, but mostly dark.... the others want the lights completely on or completely off... since there is no choice to dim the lights, those who want the lights dim but most lit up will end up supporting the side that wants the lights completely on.... those who want the room mostly dark, but not completely dark will side with those who want the room completely dark... since there are no 3rd and 4th choices, only two, there essentially will be no moderates... now, that's not to be confused with saying there are none who have moderate opinions, but since there is no moderate option, the results are the same as if there were no moderate opinions...

What's the "moderate" position on people threatening to kill or imprison their political opponents, threatening armed insurrection if an election doesn't go their way, threatening to silence the press, and sending brownshirts after anyone who criticizes you via Twitter?

Anyone threatening to kill their political opponents are maniacs, threatening to imprison them is going to depend on WHY they are threatening them with imprisonment and if it is warranted or not.

Threatening armed insurrection if it doesn't go your way is basically mutiny and the person would go to jail immediately if they tried that.

Threatening too silence the press is unconstitutional, but what is even worse than that IMO is CONTROLLING the press. I'd rather them silence the press, then control them.

There's a difference between being politically-apathetic uninformed moderate and having a refined political ideology.

One of the few things Obama said that I agreed with is when he addressed that political cynicism and disengagement is favourable to those in positions of power.

Anyone that researches political schools of thought in-depth would naturally come to a conclusion of their own as there are several political parties that represent the broad political spectrum

The 2 party system isn't the be all end all, there's parties that represent all ideologies.

So either the person is a coward or is too lazy to research political ideologies that they can identify with
