Can we talk about Bradley Beal being a bum?

Difference is the Raptors know how to draft and find guys to develop.

They havent drafted well for a few years and id argue the development has stalled...they cant afford like the Wizards to pay a non superstar 50m or they be right where Washington is and id say theyre already close to being there at the moment...

I'm of the belief that you don't sign a veteran supermax unless you already have tons of other assets like draft picks or young players or they are a for sure superstar. Once you sign that supermax it's hard to build after that as you're likely not going to be bad enough to get a really high draft pick and not enough free cap to sign another star through free agency. Wizards didn't have much around him and should've tried to get a big haul the likes of Mitchell, Gobert, or PG.

If hes a top 10 players you are able to add veterans cheaply...when you have a Bradley Beal thats not gonna draw the cheap vets talent you need on the edges...another layer to the supermax being a superstar it has gravity...

Facts, Beal to me wasn’t that much better that you should choose him and hedge your bets on him. I actually would’ve kept Wall between the two if I had to choose. Get a bigger return from trading Beal while being able to resign Wall to a more cap friendly deal.

Best case scenario, the right team is built around him to try one last run and worse case it doesn’t work out like it isn’t working out right now.

I think they shoud have got rid of both use the young players/picks to rebuild/re tool.....Beal is not the guy to be building around period.

Ur 3rd best player making 50m isnt an ideal situation for winning...
And that blame should go on Wizards not Beal. Reality is outside of top 7-8 guys, you wont get much done with one guy making $50 mil :hubie: Blazers going through the same thing and Dame is tiers above Beal. The Supermax should have some sort of exception towards the salary cap.

That would’ve made the most sense out of all the different outcomes. They would’ve gotten a haul and been in great position to build a solid winner.

Never understood why the Wizards gave him that deal, not like they're winning games with him (I know he's not healthy at the moment). They should've just traded him before, I see why Brad took the deal get your bread lol. But the Wizards probably would've been in a much better spot going forward without a supermax deal on the books not even or just barely making the playoffs (or even play-in).

He's ALWAYS been a complimentary piece thats the problem in the NBA

They keep overpaying these complimentary pieces max and super max money then they wanna complain
Drives me nuts. Hate when people say, "well, what are they gonna use the cap space for otherwise" or "who else is gonna sign there?" Cop-out arguments for terrible decision making. These contracts NEVER work out. You ONLY pay superstars the max. Everybody else takes a discount. If they don't want to, ship them out before free agency.

Even worse is when these other bozo teams trade for these terrible contracts (Lakers, Wolves, etc.).

Not drafting Halliburton was huge. You might be right in that not drafting him was major domino to get to where things are now. As a cheap vet, Wall could’ve still contributed behind Halliburton for a much friendlier deal than what Brad is gettin.

Of course Wall wouldn’t have been a cornerstone player anymore but I think he would’ve been a solid contributor. While bolstering the roster with a Beal trade. But with no Halliburton it probably wouldn’t have mattered.
Yeah, in 2020, I thought Beal was the trade chip they should cash in. But they chose him.

Remember, John was still on his supermax. His contract was due to expire after this 2022-23 season. He took a buyout.
