While I'm tired of too many old people in politics, I don't see the OP as hitting the central issue until you get to the final paragraph. And by the responses in here I'm guessing most people didn't even read to that paragraph because they're saying shyt that pretty much directly contradicts it.
The biggest issue, by far, is money. The worst people in Congress aren't doing this shyt for their own self-fulfillment, they're doing it to get kickbacks and future career opportunities. Term limits don't solve the problem, because that just increases the frequency with which politicians are going to hit the revolving door, they'll use their time in Congress to pay off companies and set up lucrative do-nothing positions to wait for them when they're done.
I do think we need to get rid of the Feinsteins and such who seem to have rotted to their chair, but I'm not sure what the simple solution is that actually helps the problem.
