Can You Watch Avengers Without Having Watched The Hero Films?

You can watch it just fine. There is a few references to the movies before it but nothing major.

EDIT:

Actually the only thing you'd miss out on is Nick Fury approaching them in each film asking them to join the team. Which isn't a big deal but it sets up "Avengers" nicely.

I feel you, this year being overseas was the first time I really missed the Superbowl. Didn't get to watch it live and watching the replays fukking sucked. Lets not get on how I was getting destroyed in fantasy because I didn't watch a game during the season...fukking time zones!!!
