I love Canibus, he's always been an inspiration to me.

As much as people front on him, he is a legend. Now keep in mind there are degrees to what/who is legendary as with anything, but in MY story in relation to Hip Hop, and I think overall, he is a noteworthy MC. His debut and initial impact was a legit moment within the culture and should be pointed up.

He is NOT top 10 lol

back in college when his album leaked, you heard 80% of the album before the real album even dropped. :mjcry:

Californ-i-a by way of BK
Also it's a perfect example of the fact that even the people who CLAIM to prioritize lyrical miracle rappity rap aren't being honest. If they were they wouldn't constantly say shyt like "Canibus was spitting but the album had wack beats that ruined it." They're admitting their worldview isn't even consistent yet 5 minutes later will go back to arguing such and such's album would be better if every song sounded like some random radio freestyle they did ten years ago.

Good albums are the product of multiple things going right: good raps, good songwriting, good beats, etc. Sure there are Eminem fans who only want "good raps" (lol...) and genuinely don't give a fukk about anything else. But for every 1 of those there are 10 normal brained fans who don't want to hear a bunch of bad beats and terrible hooks just because a dude is rapping nice.
Exactly! nikkas wanna act like lyrical miracle is the most important to them but then their favorite albums are the Chronic and Get Rich or Die Trying. Lol. Albums with good rapping but not out of this world lyricism. And the reason being because that shyt is not a good listen after awhile if there's nothing else behind it.

Like we saying, to be ranked highly you do have to rap good, but you don't have to be some super lyrical MC like Canibus. In fact, it's more of a detriment because in order to be that lyrical, 9 times out of 10 you're sacrificing song quality, which is why you get a lot of forgettable albums from them Crooked I type of rappers. The ability to craft good songs are ultimately what people care about and why all time rankings look the way they do.

I've said more or less exactly this when people say Lupe would've ran the 90's.

In the Silver Lining
Cause he would make a love song like:

You got my sprung and you know this /
Can’t get you out my system like pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis /

That is 😁

He did write a love song and it was "mildly scientific but poetically" worded....AND DOPE.

Chorus and singing was the closest he got to an R&B song. He hated on Wyclef, but this track had a theme that a larger audience could relate too. He never went back to this style and it pigeon holed him I think.

Imagine if he wrote some raunchy shiit "mildly scientific but poetically" worded:

"Your smile lights up like an aurora,
Tongue lashing your areolas
I enter like a submarine through your love canal
The hormonal stimulation makes you howl
You baby got that nectar that I crave
Like a feign on the streets of MLK, oh behave
Side strokes like Navy Seals
Back strokes going in 3D, I'm in your Soul for Real?
Now turn around Queen, get on the floor and kneel
Let you talk to the map of Africa, turned horizontal"

^^^^If you see my point, with a good R&B singer, chorus and production he could have at least expanded his aggressive scientific battle rap reach :laff:
