People saying NY did it to themselves but be real. The radio is uniform across the country. It all sounds like Atlanta.

Maybe Cali is different cuz when I ws out there I heard real dj's spinning regional records. I also heard Mobb Deep etc. on daytime radio there.

I go visit NY now and it's terrrible. The Dj's are saying "this is hot" "This is not hot"

Problem is theres no leadership or accountability.

I watched Combat Jack who is in NY get at Ebro on twitter months and months ago pressing him about this issue. Dude says he gonna come on Combat Jacks show. He does and starts talking in circles. Now Jack is cool with Ebro and the whole debate got quieted down.

It's simmering back up but there ain't ANY legit voices in NY right now who won't take a couple summerjam passes or some Hot 97 access to keep their mouths shut and dead the issue.

Ebro on twitter said today he hears all the complaining but doesn't care.

No one with authority is pressing this dude or that station.

Funnystyle Flex is up there dikkriding whatever is hot too. He got pressed on the issue and start playing local artists for 1 fukking night a few months ago to quiet down the people complaining.

I made this thread because I don't ever remember NYC EVER being this passive.

Maybe the hipsters moved in and the strong voices moved out. WAY out.

Why would I want to be from a city where it cost 20 dollars to eat a hamburger and black people get full body rubs from NYPD?

Why dont you enjoy the music coming out of your home town like Gucci mane? make threads about that.

I can't believe it either but, I saw it coming when people was bigging up wack as music from artists because they were "real" or talking street shyt. I'm not saying the west or south was better at it but, when they did it, they did it right. Meaning it was musical, while the east kept trying to recreate nas, jay-z or 50-cent. Then everyone was beefing, which isn't bad if the music is banging but it was wack. When I left I understood why everyone wasn't feeling a lot of nyc stuff, it was plain, and relied on image. If I don't care about your image, that means your music doesn't mean shyt to me. Because being real doesn't really mean what it used to, that hustle isn't going to work anymore, unless you come with some BANGING shyt that isn't old or a repeat of what was done before.

NYC rappers need to learn how to smooth down the flow like rakim, and nas did, come with some clean, high quality sound(sonic wise),musical shyt like the kendrick album, and get an image that is not about being the best hustler or hardest rapper out. You can be a MAN without bragging about being in prison, shot up 10 nikkas, and smoke thirty blunts in an hour. The thing is to come off MANLY means you have to have that aura, and not fronting, which means living LIFE in it's whole form(sex, spiritual, finance, fighting, politics, etc.), then making music about it, not living through the music, and rapping about it . Big Daddy Kane was the epitome of this. The same as Nas, and Rakim. They all gave off the tough vibe yet didn't brag about shooting thirty nikkas all day, and thug shyt besides nas(sometimes) but, even then it was done in a way that wasn't out there, and fake like a lot of rappers. A lot of rappers now are just big little kids who are really losers when you get pass all the shyt they talk.

Another thing, the south is about to go through the same thing because the sound is about to change into a mix of the 90's hip hop, some soulful shyt like afrobeats, and electronic music, and that trap sound isn't going to cut it. Also the world is about to go through some REAL shyt so rapping about the thug shyt all day is not going to cut it either. Plus, the reason why the south has kept this gain is because hip hop was regional, and the south was the last piece to the puzzle, and they got shytted on the most. The era of regions being on top is over. Black people have other ways of communicating with each other now, and the u.s. is more connected, so using music to know what is going on with each other isn't important like it used to be. It is coming back to the MUSIC, and that was the ultimate goal when the artists stepped into the studio to make the song. Record companies, and fair weather ass fans, made this bullshyt we are seeing.

I dont agree that the breakups of Dipset and Rocafella are that significant in the grand scheme of things when talking about the downfall of NY hip hop. Hot acts come and go. Its always been like that. The acts that were hot in the first Golden Era (late 80′s) were all but gone for the second Golden Era (mid 90′s). But I will say that I think the break-up of the Fugees may have had a significant impact.
I also don’t think that 50 beefing with everybody is significant. So what? He says something to you, you say something back. Isnt that kinda what everybody got so excited about with Kendrick Lamar? All these rappers don’t have to be friends.
I believe the #1 reason for the downfall of NY hip hop is the lack of TALENT and ORIGINALITY. Too many NY rappers to come out over the last 15 years or so wanna b baby Biggies or Jay-Z juniors. Everybody wants to pop champagne, drive Bentleys, make it rain, etc.
Another reason is just the emergence of other regions. As hip hop grew, the rest of the country caught on. In the Golden Era of the late 80′s, those NY rap acts weren’t competing with rappers from Chicago, Atlanta, Louisana or Florida. So that made NY seem even more dominant.
