I can't believe it either but, I saw it coming when people was bigging up wack as music from artists because they were "real" or talking street shyt. I'm not saying the west or south was better at it but, when they did it, they did it right. Meaning it was musical, while the east kept trying to recreate nas, jay-z or 50-cent. Then everyone was beefing, which isn't bad if the music is banging but it was wack. When I left I understood why everyone wasn't feeling a lot of nyc stuff, it was plain, and relied on image. If I don't care about your image, that means your music doesn't mean shyt to me. Because being real doesn't really mean what it used to, that hustle isn't going to work anymore, unless you come with some BANGING shyt that isn't old or a repeat of what was done before.

NYC rappers need to learn how to smooth down the flow like rakim, and nas did, come with some clean, high quality sound(sonic wise),musical shyt like the kendrick album, and get an image that is not about being the best hustler or hardest rapper out. You can be a MAN without bragging about being in prison, shot up 10 nikkas, and smoke thirty blunts in an hour. The thing is to come off MANLY means you have to have that aura, and not fronting, which means living LIFE in it's whole form(sex, spiritual, finance, fighting, politics, etc.), then making music about it, not living through the music, and rapping about it . Big Daddy Kane was the epitome of this. The same as Nas, and Rakim. They all gave off the tough vibe yet didn't brag about shooting thirty nikkas all day, and thug shyt besides nas(sometimes) but, even then it was done in a way that wasn't out there, and fake like a lot of rappers. A lot of rappers now are just big little kids who are really losers when you get pass all the shyt they talk.

Another thing, the south is about to go through the same thing because the sound is about to change into a mix of the 90's hip hop, some soulful shyt like afrobeats, and electronic music, and that trap sound isn't going to cut it. Also the world is about to go through some REAL shyt so rapping about the thug shyt all day is not going to cut it either. Plus, the reason why the south has kept this gain is because hip hop was regional, and the south was the last piece to the puzzle, and they got shytted on the most. The era of regions being on top is over. Black people have other ways of communicating with each other now, and the u.s. is more connected, so using music to know what is going on with each other isn't important like it used to be. It is coming back to the MUSIC, and that was the ultimate goal when the artists stepped into the studio to make the song. Record companies, and fair weather ass fans, made this bullshyt we are seeing.

Well explained. Best post in this thread. Really, all the bullshyt that the corporate rap been through since the early 90s is finally coming to a startling conclusion. Like you said, that is the best NY image that can help the young rappers, that aura of a Nas or Rakim that can make dope music without being some kind of psychopath that kills more blacks than the KKK or some super hustler nikka that never owns property or wealth. The likes of Maino ain't never gonna blow being 40 and still getting into drama in the streets with that old school image of his.

You also touched on the subject on the last days of southern domination. Soon, like you said, those soulful 90s beats/ videogame samples will take over and leave the party rappers in the dust, which will feature more documentaries of broke ass c00ns bragging about their "run" making bad music. Good music will always prevail in the end and will expose black folk into being innovators again without any form of mental slavery holding us back.

Every reason Ebro gave is b.s and should be insulting to anyone living or born and raised in NY. Cats riding Kendrick coattails and using it as an opportunity to kick NY while it's down.

He out here talking in these imaginary circles again and people get so dizzy and confused they just quit.

This dude is sitting up there wit RosenHerb laughing about this shyt. I do see some nervousness. Not only because they numbers aren't doing that well, but because I think Kendrick may have really made some of the people who have been in NY sleepwalking and just settling for what they are fed to wake up.

Nas will always be relevant. If you're 12 yrs old now and grew up on Kreayshawn and Soulja Boy then yeah, Nas ain't relevant, but dude paid all his dudes, outlasted ALOT of dudes who came and went AND is still touring and dropping good music.

Can say YOU don't listen to Nas, but dude is still doing his thing...........Universally. Not just East, but he's good in the South and the West AND overseas.

Let's see some others who been in the game 20 plus years wit that clout. Shiiit, let's see dudes 7 yrs deep wit that clout.

Ain't many.

Y'all gotta learn respect for this culture. Cuz by the time you realize what it is you gonna be surrounded by Mac Millers, Macklemores and Hoodie Allens with a few "relevant for the moment" c00ns sprinkled in there.

NY simply doesn't have big name rappers in 2013 aside from Jay Z. It's easy to shyt on them when their biggest stars (excluding the king of ny Jigga) can't even go gold
