Not an isolated situation - Dua Lipa is currently flopping despite a huge album rollout and promotional run. Cardi's camp asking for more promo for her album but Warner not tryna eat two bricks simultaneously. Selling/Streams isn't just the problem. As a tentpole act at her label now she's gonna be expected to carry a tour but that absolutely isn't happening. Dua about to flush millions down the drain this year and if they keep going Cardi will just double that.

We're gonna look back at this era as the one that finally destroyed hip-hop commercially.

Once the investors took over, they finally completely destroyed the one thing about this genre they didn't understand (the legitimacy).

Can't help but feel like a big aspect of this was assuming black people were stupid - they really thought folks would invest their real money into this ghostwritten plant parade.

They didn't understand that people look past all the rough edges and short-comings of hip-hop only because it's authentic. Once that veneer is gone you're just left with fleeting moments of hedonism and entertainment.
