and Chance to a certain degree. The "he/she is destined for greatness" right out the bat with barely any discog that's been circulating in public. One supposedly is matching the popularity of Lauryn Hill almost right out the gate, and the other dropped a classic upon debut.

Then the constant "whoa, how big can this person get" game where every 6 months or so, their label gets them a new accolade. Soon they're shaking hands with Obama and Prince Harry at the same time. And their stans cheer because they're emotionally invested in a come-up. An ordinary, mediocre person just like them is already in the halls of greatness or definitely gonna get there :mjlol:

There has always been a reliance on narrative for marketing, but as @bigbadbossup2012 once said in an underrated post, it's never been this easy to force it. Before, you couldn't just force one rapper so quickly and effectively because people were a little more disconnected from media in general. The media cycle moved slower. Each region had its own media entities that dictated culture. But now that radio has been so consolidated, we have the Internet and we're on that shyt damn near 24 hours a day, it's easier to force a rapper down the throats of all. These blogs all have relationships with the same few labels.

Agree? Disagree? Feel free to leave an angry comment below :salute:

corny as fukk :mjlol:

The reality is that no new cat has learned anything artistic from Kendrick nor is inspired by his music. What they've learned is that marketing is 100% the name of the game. With an appealing look and narrative, all you need is the label to turn on 'the button'.

Business remains business...if you're showing returns then it makes sense. Nothing in life is free....Iggy isn't around anymore. They pushed her and "Fancy" stuck...her other output no so much

I agree on business being business but Iggy was not pushed nearly as much as Kendrick Lamar nor Eminem nor Lil Wayne nor Kanye. The fact that you could even make negative comments about Iggy and that hip hop artists (e.g. Q-Tip) jumped into the convo is unprecedented. Usually they shut the fukk up and beg for a cheque. It tells me that she didn't quite have the relationships behind the scenes as her career progressed than when she started. She was off Interscope by 2012 and known hip hop artists didn't really start shytting on her till 2013/2014 when it was probably safe to do so.

I just feel like rap always repeats itself. Well wishes & positivity isn't apart of this game. Show me someone who had any time at the top and I will show you hoards of people with a deep rooted level of disgust for them. Cardi is not immune to this. My only objection to the machine talk that comes along with Cardi is those cases there is usually a huge disconnect between the push & the reception..The fact is women have responded in force about the adoration for Cardi. She is guaranteed reaction in the club for the slow sipping hip swinging bougie acting girls in the club. Have I been shocked by the Rolling Stone Cover, Daily Mail Coverage & consistent talk about her? Somewhat but it's still the entertainment business and right now she is the most entertaining person in rap. It's almost like your ghetto cousin finding her way to the spotlight

whats the difference between Drake's "push" and Kendricks "push" or J.Cole's "push" for that matter?

aint that the name of the game? Big record company market artist to the masses? Is Kendrick Lamar getting the torch from the west coast legends any different than Drake getting the torch from the hottest rapper in the game at the time (Wayne)

Cardi is getting heavy push but her label isn’t so confident. They tried the geazy feature...than tried to shock people with having nicki on the same track.

Both failed. Geazy track is poppin cause of his large white fan base..the motor sport track is a dud. Now they are linking her up with Bruno mars but the fact is it’s been a year and her label is scared to release the album.

It’s 2018 labels don’t care about talent. Only who can make them money...same thing goes for Kendrick who not even a lyricist.

i feel like you’re ignoring his mixtapes like thats not apart of his discog.

Who? Kendrick's?

No one cared about Kendrick till Section 80, breh. We've been over this a million times. Damn near no one listened to Overly Dedicated. Try and find a review for that shyt anywhere prior to 2011. I think I came across two. One was from Vibe, which had OD listed as #18 or #23 best release of the year, behind a whole bunch of people we don't care about today. The other was some random person going "I like this mixtape."

Kendrick came on the scene as "oh look, there's this new guy from LA who got a J Cole beat." Then the few who knew about Kendrick/TDE were like "yeah, Section 80's cool but Absoul's really where it's at." Then Absoul got promptly dropped from the convo once the rollout to GKMC started, and it hasn't been the same since.

Kendrick's got the look. The tweens and teens need someone to believe in as being goat. Some of the older cats need someone to mention so they don't seem totally flabby when they are actually flabby. That's my point. It's an image/narrative far more than their musical output.

Cardi's appeal is less pretentious (people just wanna see her mediocre ass 'win') so I don't have much of a problem with it. She aint out here claiming she's dropping classics. She's just saying she's the hottest shyt out right now. Maybe she is. Doesn't matter to me :yeshrug:
