That's cool I don't really think those songs are as good as canal street but to each his own

Respect that, breh. I'm curious - what is it about Canal St that makes you feel like it's Rocky's best work? Best beat he's ever got? Best vocals? Best rhymes?

and Chance to a certain degree. The "he/she is destined for greatness" right out the bat with barely any discog that's been circulating in public. One supposedly is matching the popularity of Lauryn Hill almost right out the gate, and the other dropped a classic upon debut.

Then the constant "whoa, how big can this person get" game where every 6 months or so, their label gets them a new accolade. Soon they're shaking hands with Obama and Prince Harry at the same time. And their stans cheer because they're emotionally invested in a come-up. An ordinary, mediocre person just like them is already in the halls of greatness or definitely gonna get there :mjlol:

There has always been a reliance on narrative for marketing, but as @bigbadbossup2012 once said in an underrated post, it's never been this easy to force it. Before, you couldn't just force one rapper so quickly and effectively because people were a little more disconnected from media in general. The media cycle moved slower. Each region had its own media entities that dictated culture. But now that radio has been so consolidated, we have the Internet and we're on that shyt damn near 24 hours a day, it's easier to force a rapper down the throats of all. These blogs all have relationships with the same few labels.

Agree? Disagree? Feel free to leave an angry comment below :salute:

I agree:ehh:

corny as fukk :mjlol:

The reality is that no new cat has learned anything artistic from Kendrick nor is inspired by his music. What they've learned is that marketing is 100% the name of the game. With an appealing look and narrative, all you need is the label to turn on 'the button'.

Putting that WOAT Banner into overdrive huh?

The quarterly "I don't know how the music industry works but here's my bullshyt opinion, stated as fact" thread. :wow:

Go to a club. Go to a show. Go to a salon. Basically, go somewhere where there are young women, especially black and Hispanic ones. Play Bodak Yellow. Report back what happens. Oh wait I'll tell you.

Time to let it go. This isn't the machine making something a hit. The song is a fukking hit because just about every young black and Hispanic chick ages 13-30 fukks with it. Those are facts. A machine doesn't do that. The song was blowing up before the label even pushed it. You know what other song had a similar performance, without the label? SZA's The Weekend. If you listen to rap shyt enough you should be able to tell when something is a hit.

Cardi is dominating right now. Am I a fan? Nah. I mean I like a couple songs. But brehs...go hang around young women. They can recite random songs from her mixtapes brehs. Come on.

Kendrick is a God to these internet forum posters similar to akademiks. Because they somehow prove that the weirdo loner with no friends and doesn't leave his mom's house can make it out and make some money :mjlol:

For someone so unimpressed by Kendrick, that nikka stays on Sirbytch’s mind... He claims everyone who disses him on The Coli is a stalker & fan, yet he is the true embodiment of those very words when it comes to K.Dot. What’s wrong with hip hop?... Motherfukkers like this who spend more time dissecting & hating on the artists they dislike, as opposed to championing the ones they do. Except this nikka champions the likes of Playboi Carti as some kind of cutting edge artist, so I digress..:hubie:You shall proceed to your true fukkboi-ism.

Look at this arrogant cac stinking up the thread and not even being on topic. No one's disputing Bodak Yellow being a hit. Dunno why you decided to ramble about it.

So let me get this straight: I come to a rap forum to discuss Kendrick and others, who are rap acts. But I'm just a stalker like the people who come to a rap forum to discuss SirBiatch, who is not a rap act. :mjlol:

Anyway, salute to you for leaving your angry comment as instructed :salute:

Cardi B is being shoved down our throat and she not a bad artist and she beautiful so it’s fine. But I be thinking what if she started dating Offset to help her career, or what if the record label is forcing the engagement thing as more exposure for her, I just think a lot happen in a short period of time and it’s no limit to the extreme measures they will take with some artist. She is definitely a Nicki replacement brand. I know they will undoubtedly push her album to success even if she gets a ghostwriter

Like most said, Kendrick's grind was a lot longer than Cardi's. Also, Cardi had Love & Hip Hop.

That production is complete euphoria the melody goes really deep plus it's grimy and he put his vocals down perfectly. Classic shyt.
