For most of you what is the reason you're in the job/career you are? Is it for the money? Is it your passion? What?

The reason I ask this, is I have my degree, but i've come to realize there's in nothing in my field (Communications) that really truly interests me. I know for most of us, none of us truly love our job, and we simply do it to make a living, but idk :francis: i'd just to hate to do something i hate for the rest of my life. Right now i'm doing a part time job in retail until i find something permanent, and i go there and realize there are probably people there in their 40's and 50's that are miserable, but are only there for a check. Even a man in his 50's who works in my department was talking to me about talking about how it's a good thing that i'm still young and that there's "no future" in this. SMH...Idk i just want to wake and love what i do, and the life i live. *Shrugs* but hey maybe i need to just come to terms with reality of life :yeshrug:

I hear this all the time but I don't really know many people who HATE what they do for a living, they just hate that having to work takes them away from their family or their passions. Most people I know are happy with their careers, even if they're not thrilled about office politics or the rat race itself. There's positives in any situation. I'm sure you can find enjoyment through the people or through career advancement or the like. If not, then consider going into business for yourself.

I hope you don't have too much debt (as in more than 50-75k) because it's gonna be real hard to pay that back with a Comms degree unless you transition to something technical through an internship real quick.

How old are you?

I don't like what I do now. I'm transitionin' into an entrepreneur as we type. Not only will I be workin' for myself, I'll be doin' somethin' I enjoy.

The sooner you make that change, the better. You're in control of your reality. Make it happen!

Was kind of a science dude in HS so I majored in Electrical Engineering. But after not doing so well in Physics:whoo:, I realized that I loved business (money and making it, primarily) and computers so I changed to M.I.S. After college, worked for a bank. I guess it worked out later down the line bc I became a Dir of IT & Finance of a company.:manny:

What type of business are you starting?

Ended up w/ a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish. Wasn't much I could do w/ the degree itself, but it just helped solidify my bilingual capabilities.

Went into insurance by circumstance almost 11 years ago, and have made a good career out of it. I plan on doing this until I retire. :manny:

EDIT: Didn't realize there was money here, the sky is the limit w/ most any sales job, but I actually do really enjoy what I do.

I make no secrets about it I chose finance for my degree for the money. I hated being broke, and I wanted to leave my current situation. Am I happy with my career? Eh, I'm okay with it. The hours aren't hectic/ neither is the work. I just wanted to be comfortable. Too bad I wasn't more aware of student debt.

Don't worry about the communications degree, you can make something out of it. I knew a girl from Howard University, who graduated with a degree in Communications and Culture, and works at BNP Paribas investment banking as an administrative assistant. You still have time!

When i started college, i started out majoring in Music Industry Management, then i transferred to another school and choose Journalism, and then settled with Communications. I choose communications because i thought it would be a good degree for if i wanted some type of career in entertainment. Basically if you notice every degree i choose was centered around something entertainment or media related. This may sound childish(but i'm going be honest) but i basically what to do something where i'm in the public eye and people see and know who I am. Very vain/superficial i know but i'm just keeping it 100 with yall :yeshrug:
