I didn't know this was even in question. Jeter was never, ever the best fielder in the game and everyone knows that. His gold gloves are almost the perfect equivalent to Kobe's all-defensive selections - built entirely on his offensive fame and the occasional great possession but not reflecting the full picture at all.





There's a huge amount of room between "terrible" and "the best fielder in the game this year". Jeter was nowhere near the best fielder in the game and most of his career wasn't even above-average.

Jeter did not deserve a single Gold Glove.
Sure, Jeter made some great plays in his career. But he also didn't get to A LOT of balls that many other Shortstops DID get to. And that's a glaring weakness that doesn't always show up to the casual fan.

Derek Jeter is one of the best shortstops ever because of his bat.
He absolutely deserves his spot in Cooperstown.

But defensively he's arguably the worst of the great shortstops.
