This whole first, second, third option nonsense is why Melo is lost in the first place. The game of basketball isn't completely centered around throwing the ball at the rim and hoping it goes in.
The contenders he'd be willing to go to have better scorers on their team than Melo and they sure as shyt are smart enough not to take away a strong/defender rebounder for the sake of adding another one dimensional scorer.
This also shows that Dolan ultimately calls the shots

I gotta think that other GMs/Team VPs out there are privately or even publicly like
at Phil and the mess he has going on... Which is what really scares me as far as a potential Melo deal... I remember hearing someone on WFAN earlier (I think it was Joe B) saying how before, Phil had been styling on a lot of these dudes, and they're not gonna be eager to help Phil to look good in a potential deal. So either Phil doesn't have a good deal for Melo, or he's stuck with him. And to top it all off, our best bet is to go to Dolan 
and ask him to do something.... I always thought it was curious that Phil was hired right around the time that there was supposed to be that rally outside the Garden telling Dolan he had to get out the way.
