This is the shyt Melo should have thought about when he forced his way to NY. If he really wanted to compete he would have signed there that offseason instead of the Knicks having to give up valuable assets. Gallinari would have fit in well with him to me and even if he came off the bench him and Smith would have created problems for the second units of other teams. He could be sending a subliminal message to the Knicks that he wants Chandler traded for more offensive help. But Tyson is the only reason why they are a halfway decent defensive team so that would be dumb of them to do that.

I never understood that either. Kobe is a shooting guard, it's not his place to be handing out assists like a pg. That's not his game nor is it Melo's game.

The melo trade or him not "waiting" till the summer isn't the biggest reason the Knicks don't have cap flexibility. It was the decision to amnesty Chauncey and then sign tyson to that big deal

I'm not comfortable with JR as our full time #2 either but it was what it was. His problem was he was trying to break out of the slump with jumpers. He abandoned what he did to close out the regular season by mixing his game up. He needed some layups, dunks, and floaters. He just needed to see the ball go thru the basket. He kept waiting on the J to fall.

Why is this thread still Up?? We just went through this last year when everyone was basketball experts and saying how we were finished before the year began. We lost in the second round and yet got hawk fans talking like they are patriots fans or something and other teams running in to tell us how trash we are

You know I got no issues wit y'all but you know why the Knicks get more hate than the Nuggets, Clippers, or Nets. Just compare the season thread sizes and that should give you the answer.
The question is how will you "slightly improve" with the lack of flexibility you have? Guys like Kidd, Camby, Martin are a year older so you cant mark them down to contribute the same or even more than this season with no doubt.
Chandler needs to show he can stay healthy and get back to himself, Amare is, well Amare. You need Prigioni back, Jr looks like he's back but what JR will you get? And Felton was a rollercoaster in the playoffs. Novak, well who knows.
But Melo will be Melo, and you could see more growth with Shump and Copeland (if he comes back).
It's entirely possible you guys can win 50+ again, but I don't think you can just write off the fact that dropping back into that 45 win group isn't a possibility.
