Honestly never been there but I always equated overwhelming blackness with Miss and Bama ... as in African-American not so much African like Nola and the parts of South Carolina and Georgia where the remaining Gullah-Geechie primarily are located.

My aunt went to Jackson state and would mention how the people in the area reminded her of Liberia.

Much of the Blacks in the Low Country and other coastal cities descend from my ethnic group (due to their skills in rice cultivation) so I can always notice the simularities in what they retained from their African Ancestors.

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
You must have grown up in the city or something.

I can hear Gullah pretty good the same with many of the Carribean languages/dialects.

Then again I’m interested in linguistics and etymology so I can pick up on what those people are saying.

The Lyft drivers in Charleston who were white told me they barely understand a word when these folks speak

When I found out that the Gullah-Geeche went from southern North Carolina to northern Florida, I was like :dwillhuh::gladbron::ooh:. That's basically a whole country in a country. :obama:

I don't know how accurate this statement is, but, it seems African-Americans actually do have their own language. :ehh:

They are a subset of the oversll ethnic group. Each subset has their own dialects which may be similuar or different.

The Gullah-Geechie stick out because they are one of the few groups in America that stuck with the “nation” concept that their Ancestors in Africa and Native Americans practiced (we also use the term tribe to describe nations but some argue that is done to deligitimize these nations).

This is why groups like the NOI and Moorish Science Temple place heavy emphasis on establishing a Nation.

I’m jealous how people in Canadian cities preserve a lot of their culture while I see the culture being drained in America.

Much respect to this lady it seems like the creole culture in Louisiana is trying to fade away.

:rudy:

The Gullah are in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. There is a whole corridor that the USA government preserved to retain AA culture.
