If the current generation has been around for a while, find one that’s 3-4 years old and it’s way less. A 2-3 year old Sierra will go for under $25,000 :manny:. No good reason to buy brand new when they deprecate like that as soon as they leave the lot. A 2019 C300 with options will likely cost more than a 2015 S550 with under 45,000 miles and plenty of options. When you look at it in those terms, the choice becomes a lot easier.

I feel ya. I just love the new features and designs for the 2019. Also here in TX, trucks hold their value like a muthafukka!!!!! Used ain't always that much cheaper here.

I'll never understand how one (the average person) would by a brand new car. You really burnin money. A car will lose worth with every mile you drive. It's just a fukkin car
Cars are the wealth trap of the middle class. You finance a depreciating asset that is not only losing money but cost you money to drive it because you have to maintain it.

Thing is car companies spend a lot on marketing to convince people to buy cars. People view cars as expensive toys. Many of those people can't really afford those expensive toys so they finance them.

I buy cars because I like cars. It is what it is.

Never bought a brand new car but I can understand why people do, especially those who actually hang on to their vehicles and would like something with a full warranty or lease.

As for people buying things beyond their means, can't do anything about that. That's just the American way unfortunately. Selling cars, I definitely sold some to people that shouldn't have bought them. Can't tell them no though. :yeshrug:

But how did the concept of liking a car even begin? It just seems like the concept of liking a car is ingrained in people from marketing and advertising.

I view a car as a appliance. A device that gets me from one point to another reliably. It's the same way I view a microwave as a device that heats my food. Nobody really looks at their paper shredder and says I like that. To most it's simply a tool that does the job required of it. Viewing cars that way saves a person a shyt ton of money over their lives. Cars are expensive, too expensive for most to be the toys they try to make them out to be. Even worse is the depreciation on them. Something of real value wouldn't depreciate so fast.

I have my own issues with stuff like I'm constantly buying new phones. I've actually been trying to break myself of it. It's really worth taking a hard look at stuff in live and questioning your desire for it.

Its a sign of status and upward mobility. It's always been like that. Even appliances are seen that way. How else do you think brands sell products. We don't even need most of what they sell.

If you have testosterone driving a car fast is extremely fun...more fun then video games the issue is the law and speed limits. Especially driving a car that is meant to be fast :banderas:

expensive is relative. if i like a car that much after a refresh design i'll buy it brand new.
i have a 10 year old beater maxima and a nice 70K V8 5.0 Lexus in my garage at the same time. If you think there's no difference between an expensive luxury car ride and a normal economy class then you lying to yourself or you never been in a luxury car. and i don't mean an audi a4

You ain’t wrong in regards to top shelf quality and how different it is from a standard car, but it’s pointless to buy brand new when a car drops so much in 2-3 years from being brand new. You can find a 2015 S550 now in the tri state area for maybe $42-45,000. That car was about $125,000 brand new with most of the options and an all wheel drive train. A 2016-17 CTS can be found CPO at maybe $22-26,000 in the luxury trim and that was about $52-55,000 brand new. A 2015-16 Escalade can be found at $45,000 too instead of the $80,000+ that it costs brand new. That’s a lot more money to spend instead of waiting 1-3 years.
