Don't have any pets myself, but I always thought cats were > dogs because they're easier to take care of and not as noisy.
With a dog you have to worry about training it and/or scooping up after it. With cats all you have to do have a litter somewhere and they're good. Plus you don't have to worry about a cat barking at/biting somebody and getting you in trouble. Plus cats don't need as much attention. As long as you feed them and change their litter regularly they're good. Dogs usually are going to want more attention.
