The issue is the new job wasn’t guaranteed

it’s taking a leap of faith

His old job is at risk if they find out he’s bunking off to look for a new employer if he doesn’t have a sufficient excuse eyebrows will be raised. OP has rent/ mortgage bills to pay. I remember taking a day off work to do a job interview for a Hail Mary job application the current employers started questioning my absences and being sceptical of their legitimacy.
You must take greater risks to reap a great reward. My point in the original post was that there are literally hundreds out here willing to take the risk that OP skipped out on. He missed his chance.

Obviously, I take no pride in a black man missing a job, but the true enemy here was natural selection selecting him out the pool. There is much much much hungrier competition out here.:hubie:

OP you screwed up
You should have prepared before time
Prepare for what? :mindblown:

I did the phone interview on the 23rd. She hit me back up on the 30th asking to do the zoom interview. I responded back the 31st and we went back and forth about scheduling. On the 1st she told me they will look into scheduling the interview for the week of the 9th. I heard nothing back and on the 8th I responded back and got that automated response?

The hell should I have done? Y’all realize my managers do audits on techs where they might randomly show up to a site where you’re working to just check on you. It’s happened to me before. What if I’m doing this interview in my car and they pull up on me? Now I’m fukked over with two jobs. :mindblown:
Yall serious right now?:mindblown:

You was doing too much. Should have just done the interview when they wanted.

None of these companies show loyalty to employee and will let you go without blinking an eye unless they can’t replace you.

gotta remember you aren’t the only applicant. They probably had 3/4 others they were looking at. It was harder to accommodate to your schedule than the others. they probably said fukk it and moved on. It is what it is :francis:. You should’ve agreed with the date then told your current job an emergency came up for that date and you can’t come in. Or you could’ve explained the situation and see if you could do a quick introductory phone call with the hiring manager first since you wouldn’t be able to do a full on meeting yet. Gotta show youre proactive atleast. I remember when I was like 16 or 18(don’t remember) I had job interview for JC penny. Lady looked me in the eye, shook my hand and told me I was hired. That was the last time I heard from her. Taught me a valuable lesson going forward

You don’t get a lunch? If so, couldn’t have done it then?

Truthfully, if I wanted the job bad enough, I would have scheduled during the afternoon and pulled my Ethernet cable out the wall during the call. Tell the job I lost internet connection.
:mjlol:
Cotdamn! I was thinking the same thing. Straight grimey.

The 718
I recently got ghosted on a job opportunity I wasn't even looking for - THEY reached out to me, and since they're one of, if not THE top ad agency in the country and I was unhappy at my current job anyway, I said fukk it and did interviews. All of em went well, (especially one with this black chick that would've been my coworker who was :noah: and had a dope personality to boot) they loved me, even asked me when would be my best starting date. Then all of a sudden the communication gets scarce. I keep having to e-mail the recruiter and she's like "We're still determining hiring allocations etc etc. but we definitely want you so hang tight." So every week I get a little update...

then all of a sudden the damn recruiter leaves the company :stopitslime:

But she tells me I'm straight and that her replacement knows my situation. But this bytch is even worse at communication. Says absolutely nothing, then when I finally e-mail her she's all gassing me up again and telling me how much everybody likes me and wants me there, asks me my location, and I respond...nothing. Send a few e-mails, she says she's gonna be speaking to creative leadership the next week and she'll get back to me. A whole MONTH passes by and NOTHING. I e-mail again, she gives another gassing up response and asks me a question. I respond, and nothing again.

So I'm not even sure if I was ghosted or if their communication was just horrible. Either way, I dropped it because I didn't want to deal with that shyt; came off as unprofessional. Wound up working out because now I got a new job in New York that fell in my lap:smugdraper:

Yup. Best believe somebody took a call during their lunch break, or said fukk it & stepped out of work to take the interview.

You gotta take that chance & prepare yourself for any date (Don’t ever schedule calls the week after, only during the same week)

Middle of my lunch break too

Short term discomfort for long term come-up, come on bruh....

The fukked up thing is if they told me they could only do the interview that week then I would have done it in my car but they dead ass told me they would look into doing it the week of the 9th. nikkas really had me sitting here thinking it would get done only to ghost me. That shyt is corny.

I understand what you’re saying. When I’m on call I basically can’t take off. And that’s the one time that nobody is going to want to cover for me. My wife always want me to take off for some dumb shyt like going to visit her family. I’m like I can’t up and take off and she’s like why not use some PTO that’s why you got it. Then I’m like who’s supposed to my job. I’m not trying to look unreliable. You just have to go without me.

As far I can tell I’m the only black person in my department nationwide. That’s among hundreds of employees. I was never hired by the company I work for. They basically bought the company I was working for. I kept working and one week before getting my severance. They hired me on with their IT. Gave me a raise and and let me keep the severance. I was like :blessed: cause I was striking out on my job search, so I try to be extra careful with any fukkery,

It sounds like you had a week to schedule the day off, and it’s very important that you get your COVID shot if you know what I mean. You could have scheduled some kind of meaningless doctor’s appointment as a cover. Like your yearly physical.

At the very least, you should have contacted the recruiter before the week of the 1st ended. Contacting them on the 8th for something that could very well happen on the 9th is no good. If the recruiter didn't have a date for the next week by that wednesday/Thursday, it wasn't gonna happen and less of your time would have been wasted waiting.
