Why do the Irish support Palestine?
it's a scottish team, and they're so-called anti imperialist given how catholics and scotch-irish were treated by the english crown

it's also a way for them to ignore that the catholic church slaughtered muslims (and jews, and even christians!) in palestine for almost a whole century, and that they are part of the british empire that had palestine in a vice grip until israel was created (with their help, mind you)

if you think spurs, red sox and cardinals fans are corny as shyt with their sanctimonious garbage, celtic takes that to 11, except unlike those other teams, they dont actually win anything worthwhile :blessed:

I'm Palestinian man and while I agree with pretty much all you're saying, I don't see any problem with the Celtic fans expressing themselves as they are. If you think it is corny or disingenuous (which I don't), it sends a message nonetheless.

Now I know that protest and shyt isn't super effective, and if you really care, you'd boycott Israeli shyt and so on and so forth. But this is a way of saying we don't tolerate Zionist garbage and in a football stadium with the harmony and so many fans etc., it's arguably more powerful than a normal demonstration.

Besides some people like to disassociate themselves from the act of their governments and/or church. A lot of American citizens I know are pro-Palestine, even if the government isn't.

i was just answering his question

that particular team happens to have at least 3 arab players, and is part of Hapoel, which is largely left wing and anti-occupation, so this was celtic fans protesting a team that doesn't necessarily disagree with them. another great example of scottish football fans being over the top and trying way too hard to be important :ehh:

We weren't protesting the team really and you always see many Palestinian flags at Celtic games, you just saw more because we where playing an Israeli team.

as long as it brings attention to a greater cause, I'm all for it

but interesting about the Hapoel stance stuff...but not that it makes a difference to me

i understand why you say that but i disagree. but to each their own.

i also wonder if the average celtic fan is so welcoming to arabs when he's not blindly waving a flag in a football stadium :sas1:

Irish Catholics where never part of the British empire at any point we've been fighting them in one way or another for over 800 years. We have only been exploited and murdered by it.

Also the Republic of Ireland is considered the most hostile European nation to Israel. We've never fukked with that country and never will. Standing up for what's right isn't sanctimonious garbage.

That's bullshyt, the support goes beyond Just waving flags as well. Lots of Celtic fans sacrifice time and money to do this, not to mention police harassment.

Don't try and paint the average Celtic fan as racist because it's not true, your sounding like a Hun.

you live in scotland though, so your country has been part of the british crown for more than 300 years. getting all that rice, salt, and textiles from poor colonies of brown and black people and money from jobs in factories that created ammunitions that ripped apart india and southern africa isn't being "exploited and murdered by it"

why are you talking about ROI? should my cousin with italian grandparents be more in tune with italy than she is with brazil, just because of her ancestry?

ps fukk celtic, fukk rangers, fukk hibs, and the whole joke of a league and your inability to separate minute theological differences from a football pitch :heh:
