And another great case for being in a group is Black Thought...and even Buckshot. These n!ggas were technically in a group, but clearly solo artists with their team that contributed through the albums. Most people didn't even realize 5Ft rapped. So if you're the talented one, surround yourself with complimentary artists and/or producer who can break up the monotony from time to time.

Releasing an album as a group would've been better for most of these artists instead of being a sub-par/average artist that the label really has no clue what to do with.

how many hip-hop groups are doing well now.
How many hip hop solo artists are doing well now?

How many female emcees are doing well now?

How many Black R&B artists are doing well now?

Americas love affair with Black culture is over...Chasing financial success in rap is a futile endeavor...

I agree. but then again, like someone said too many rappers are now too ego driven.

but group albums? hell, there aren't even freestyles like there used to be. you'd have rappers freestyling together, very much different styles and rappers but they all went the fukk in.. what happened to that? i don't feel like I see that with rap much anymore. there aren't even tracks like there used to be, where you'd have big pun, canabis, n.o.r.e and cam'ron all on the same track GOING off.

i understand the shift to the new school, but i dont remember the last track I heard with any new school rappers who all have very different styles ALL going off and saying some rememberable shyt that stuck.

are rappers too intimidated to put in their best because they are afraid to get lyrically slaughtered by their friends? so most of them spit average shyt, and then get outshined by someone just as average? is that their best?! :lupe:

I've made it clear in multiple posts i was never talking about current garbage artists cliquing up. I'm talking in general these young cats don't have solo star power and should consider being in a group and not trying to be a solo artist out the gate...half of them have no name "crew mates" they rap with in the first place, why not take the best 2-3 guys and be a group instead of having three struggle artists. ASAP Mob is a prime example, rocky has done ok solo, but nikkas like twelvy and nast trying to be solo acts as well when they should just be a formal duo and call it a day.
hearing that ASAP Twelvyy track got me thinking of this post, those two need to just rock together. Very few people are buying both a Twelvyy and a Nast album, just release a record together and get paper as a group.

You're 100% correct.

Imagine if booty brown or Imani tried to have solo careers.

they released solo material after slim kid tre gave us the white drake, in brian austin greene.
before drake was crammed down our throats with payola and oversaturation.

in the same era when fat lip went solo.
it was in the hiphopsite.com, and early ughh.com days.
the imani record had good reviews, if i remember right.

i only listened to the fat lip records and lost interest.
never could get past the selling out of slim kid tre.
that anchored the whole group,...
even though the remaining members of the pharcyde were pr'd as saying fukk tre, for that bullshyt.

as in? i know a lot of dudes like him...and it may be that he's not my cup of tea...but dude would be much better as a complimentary piece of a duo or trio, his different sound would compliment a pure spitter. his uniqueness is not enjoyable for a full album's worth of material in the same way cudi is

duke is van full of pakistans wack.

He's just not your cup of tea. He's toured worldwide off a mixtape. He would be dumb as hell to follow your advise
People (including myself) love him as a solo artist.

j cole is all former live nation sales and payola, and phoney gate receipts to cover the bill.
plus, a tongue in cheek diss by jayz to nas.
fukk all those wack emo biter rappers.
