So hes been signed to a major since 09?not 100% organic but as close as any person could get. he was signed to rostrum in 06 but that was an indie label. i woundnt doubt he'd been in talks with bigger labels almost his whole career but sometime after how fly atlantic scooped him up.
that was even before I heard of him, I became a fan in like January 2010 thinking dude is on his independent grind and it wasnt until the summer when he had that huge buzz because of Kush & OJ that he announced he signed to Atlantic
one of his stand out tracks imo

What I dont understand is why labels sign certain acts and have them front like theyre "independent" and have all these labels trying to sign them even though a major has been backing them the whole time... this dates back to Drake when "best I ever had" was getting radio play and he was repping YM even though claiming to be unsigned, even Kendrick and ASAP are in that same boat..
But how many more times will that work before people eventually start seeing through the BS though, like theres no way in hell ANY new independent artist who just dropped a mixtape/album this year and doesnt even really have a lot of buzz outside of the world of bloggers should be going on tour with Eminem and collabing with Lil Wayne.. this whole Chance thing seems blatantly obvious that hes being backed by a major label if u ask meBecause a lot of new generation fans are "against the machine" & are more prone to be attracted to an artist who has an "organic" or more "real" struggle coming up as opposed to being manufactured...
It's marketing genius in its purest form because fans really feel like they're rooting for one of their own...

They won't see it though... the average fan is dumb as fukk which is why artists are marketed towards the "commoner". We're talking about the same idiots who believe every word their favorite artist says without one shred of evidence, no proof, just word of mouth in a country that elected George Bush Jr. *TWICE* & believes Trinidad James got signed for $2 Million. The new "Organic-Major" approach labels have been using just uses misdirection to make fans feel as though that artist was against the odds & people always love the underdog...
Have you been on Twitter & Facebook lately? People in general are probably 10x dumber & lazier then they were just 20 years ago. You have people who post up rumors from non-credible news websites & pass them off as facts for "Likes" & "Re-Tweets" without ever stopping to Google if what was said in the article is in fact true.
For example... when Adrian Peterson's 2 year child who he had never even met died people were spreading the picture of him & his other son around the internet photoshopped with wings & a halo with hundreds of thousands of RT's & shares yet nobody stopped to consider that the kid pictured in the photo was not the 2 year old that passed.
Never underestimate the level of ignorance people have...![]()
