I’ve had em a few times. They’re ok, but I never seek em out.
Maybe us AA's generally don't fukk w/ those foods because we weren't brought up on that
Ofc we're more American than African, we built this motherfukker and been here for centuries.
Lastly, "Negro" has been historically used to describe AA, and Soul Food staples are negro foods not jollof or fufu.![]()
Jollof = jambalaya with different meats
Gumbo = we ate it there AND here but probably changed up the spices to adapt to whatever was available here
We used sweet potatoes because there were no yams in the Americas.
Okra...we mostly ate that on both sides of the Atlantic.
Plantains, I'll give you that. Really depends on where in the U.S., you're from and the kinds of foods you like to eat. Most brehs will like either the fried/chip variety or the more sweet variety if done right (IMO)
Cooking with heavy spices translates on both sides. We HAD to use spice in the Americas simply because we received the worst cuts of meat. In Africa we did it because that was how we liked our food.
BBQ is really the most American form of cooking and we basically started that shyt along with the Native Americans. And the only reason we did it was to make virtually inedible cuts of meat taste good. Everything else we do is some derivative of shyt we did in Africa but adjusted to the crops available to us here.
definitely an ADOS vs non ADOS thing
alotta ADOS dont' fukk wit plantains cause it wasn't part of our diet/culture. that simple.
Crazy how mods let a statement like this fly on this siteAlabama produces alot of strong and ignorant c00ns.
...and that has nothing to do with the plantain comment. Just some real carry overs from slavery stuck on them.
You got any receipts?Jollof = jambalaya with different meats
