They don’t understand the importance of social networks because they usually come from poor / underprivileged backgrounds.

They only see value in money and don’t recognize how social mobility within their own race can help them succeed.

The Black elite in America has used these groups to become leaders and support their communities, but many immigrants haven’t had the same opportunities or exposure.

Because of that, they tend to dismiss anything that doesn’t seem practical or directly related to making money, even if it could help them in the long run.

My ex is asian and attended an "elite" school. She joined a sorority her sophomore year thinking it would lead to connections and increased social interaction. Within a semester she realized how silly (and expensive) it was.

She actually went through the trouble of officially de-pledging from that goofy nonsense the next year.
