She joined a sorority her sophomore year thinking it would lead to connections and increased social interaction.
No way
... i have no idea .. . but this is from over 10 year ago . .. they been surfin the rainbow for a minute . . .
i've said it before and i'll say it again..THAT SHYT IS WEIRD
i get the spirit of your overall post
but at the above point
all organizations are not created equal
and her being an ethnic minority
may have not been privy
before joining that organization
to the quiet hierarchy
that would've gave better access
since she did not penetrate that
network socially.
im not saying her experience isn't valid
even if her organization was considered
'socially elite'
im saying, there can be an explanation.
but the context here is the black community
and as shaq was trying to extol
but was so cooly dismissed
the black meta historical network
was to provide that high level network
but to be grounded in the community.
in the community.
is that not of record?
and if it is,
is there not any grace?
but to be derided as losers and bums
on national television.
in front of maga
in the midst of an attack on black history
our bleeding heart
im so HEATED
I think the biggest reason FBA Frats get disrespected (and my biggest gripe really) is that everybody in life knows people who've joined, but very few have actually seen those people be put on anywhere by the Frat they joined.
It makes it really hard to see them as more than a friend group you paid and got hazed to get into. I get the theoretical value, but everyone I know that was in one had to get it the same way I got mine when they graduated so I don't personally see the point.
Maybe in Atlanta and DC you could be put on by your org, but outside of that, I just don't see it. If people could more visibly see their peers in Frats being put on and looked out for by their Frats they'd put more respect on it.
