full transparency

my beef (playful & real) with Ral/Dur is bigger than this and really ain’t got much to do with my love for CLT

My beef stems back from my time and A&T and as a WS (Tre Fo) breh we used to beef with R/D

my time there we kinda had a Cold War relationship like the US (us) vs Russia (them/yall) :russ:

It never blew over and got bad…. But there was some tense moments :russ:

But back then no one really messed with WS, cuz our backup is too close in proximity

I feel you, but to a degree outside of like 5-8 cities. No one else really has that either.

No one saying CLT is NY, the 3 cities in Cali, Chi, Philly, MIA, 2 cities in Texas and etc.

Once you get past a few of the major cities in the country… it’s slim pickings for what you asking

also the last part is incorrect….. if you want a unique take on a popular food item check out my boy Chef Reynaldo

There's more than just cities. New Orleans, Baltimore, Charleston, Pittsburgh, Sante fe, Seattle.
Reynoldo's its good, but let's use your link for example.
Is fried lobster Ravioli Charlotte’s take on Ravioli, or is he the only person doing it? Is there Charlotte style Pizza, or a Charlotte Sandwich? That's what I meant.

Hmmmm well Skyline ChilI is a Cincy style food but is primarily by one spot that defines Cincy food culture

Chef Rey is essentially the same

yes CLT got a lot of spots for black people to go to or Lounge at, you gotta just figure out what vibe you want. I remember around March there was an Aggie Takeover things going on and a party at this spot on Central and when I was down there. I saw another black spot or lounge/club that I didn’t even know about.

There’s a bunch of stuff all over, you either just need to ride around or find your “tribe”
That last sentence is really it. I've stayed in Southpark, been up through the city by the stadium, up/over to some of West End, even up to Ramsey Creek Beach. It's been a good time but I have yet to see/be anywhere that felt like somewhere I would actually live/be on a daily basis. To put in NC terms, I'm looking for more Little Brother type vibes, but all I've seen is spaces for either Randy Travis or DaBaby :pachaha: next time I'm up here I'm gonna explore more to see what I find

Both big NC cities have this issue. They both have a unique culture, it just isn't easily noticed or notable because both are still establishing themselves on a mainstream stage; both cities are still evolving in what their culture is...

It's there, though!

Bro a lot of places are alot different than they were a decade ago. That is not a uniquely Charlotte characteristic at all 🤣

I think calling Charlotte "slow" is somewhat unfair too, but you also have to establish someone's frame of reference on comparison. I've lived in both Charlotte and Atlanta, its absolutely slow coming from Atlanta, but to some people that is a positive.

Charlotte is fast-paced relative to what it used to be, but a lot of cities are lol. Charlotte is fast paced for Carolina, because the Carolinas are a notoriously chill and slow paced place.

Charlotte is not fast paced compared to many places, outside of those contexts.

As of 2023, South Charlotte is:

47.6% white/15.7% black/6.7% Asian/12.4% Latino

North Charlotte is:

28.8% white/45.1% black/7.7% Asian/15.1% Latino

East Charlotte is:

28.2% white/36.6% black/6.8% Asian/26.7% Latino

West Charlotte is:

21.2% white/58.3% black/4.4% Asian/12.2% Latino

They're evolving at a time when culture is at an all time low. The internet and social media fukked up any chance of developing a unique culture at this point. This is the Generic Era.

ATL…overly
I don’t know who “they” is.

It feels like people not from charlotte or out of state say that…. Nobody in Charlotte call this place the next Atlanta.

ATL got an :dame: stigma to it that overall no one in CLT wants attached to this city that. (No shade, no shots, no disrespect)

Also got more black people than ATL here (a coli breh posted a receipt in a thread earlier this year, so Not my words)

Breh I’m from Atlanta and went to school up in Greensboro, yall been calling yourselves little Atlanta or “about to be the next Atlanta” for decades, no one in Atlanta thinks about or cares about Charlotte in any meaningful way

And you intentionally named your city CLT yet you say ATL is suspect? The fukk? :gucci:

No one originally from NC says Charlotte is “Little Atlanta” :mjlol:

In the words of Mase:russ:

Also CLT ain’t about trynna copy yall….. CLT is basically a transportation code (for like Airport type shyt), CHA is already taken and used my Chattanooga. That’s business not swagger jacking…. Just like BrookLyn is BKN, Greensboro is GBO and not GRE

We not yall little niccas:mjgrin:

Yall our little nikkas though, Raleigh definitely ran the prison politics upstate; Raleigh and 919 in general us the trendsetters for street culture in NC. Fayetteville too, on some street shyt Charlotte only matters in the 704. Mf's not taking no cues from Charlotte across tge state and I got many examples to validate this...

Bro we don’t care, the only time I hear anyone compare ATL to CLiT is either in NC or online. For the record, I actually like Charlotte and can appreciate its growth but to say Charlatans don’t have an eye on Atlanta (culture, transportation concerns, population growth) is disingenuous. CLiT is a nice city to visit and live in but needs to define its own culture. Outside of banking and NASCAR idk what Charlotte stands for and maybe that’s ok but culturally I don’t know what Charlotte stands for. It feels like a city for folks who couldn’t make it in a bigger city and wanted to try it out in a smaller market

No hate but that’s how I see it :yeshrug:

Also, I feel yall on the “what’s the Charlotte culture” thing. It goes back to my restaurant example, we just got too much on our menu to define.

We not like some cities where it’s easy to define or feel their culture cuz they only know for ONE THING.

Like you don’t go to 5 Guys for a chicken sandwich or salad.

The choices here paralyze people and it becomes more it a too many options is no option kinda thing

So I hear and acknowledge all yall about this “culture” business, the curse of a multicultural big city:manny:

Charlotte is definitely banking and Nascar. For as much black culture as there is there, its always just as much white, and white people's fingerprints are all over the culture of Charlotte too...

It is "the big city" for rural Carolinians, its their taste of "city life"..

But Charlotte black culture is dope. One huge characteristic Charlotte has, in contrast to Raleigh, is how Black Charlotteans love fish frys and neighborhood cookouts. That's a distinctly black thing there, its also kinda some country shyt 🤣 but its certainly BLACK.

There’s only 12 true“bigger cities.

Charlotte is:

•#14 in city population;

•#19 in CSA;

•#20 in MSA;

•#21 in DMA (media market)

•#21 in GDP;

•#37 in UA...

So in the 6 main metrics of size, Charlotte's aggregate ranking is 22nd-place. Which is still impressive, considering that pre-1990s, Charlotte wasn't on the radar, yet today, you can clearly argue that it is a Top 20 US city. There's alota cities in the US---->coming in as Top 20 is nothing to sneeze at...

Saying its Top 12 is too far though bro 🤣

For the record, Atlanta is:

•#7 DMA;

•#7 MSA;

•#8 GDP;

•#9 UA;

•#10 CSA;

•#36 city population;

For an average ranking of 12.83, and you could argue Atlanta as a Top 10 city. It's way the fukk ahead of Charlotte in every metric besides city population...

And just for shyts and giggles, because I know you love The R, Raleigh is:

•#22 DMA;

•#31 CSA;

•#39 city population;

•#40 GDP;

•#42 MSA;

•#43 UA;

Raleigh has an average ranking of 36.17. So you could make a legit argument Raleigh is a Top 35 US city...

That’s fair….

I think 2 things that stand out for me is

1 - Charlotte got more Black People than Atlanta
2 - On Average the income of black people is higher in Charlotte than Atlanta. (Though admittedly, ATL may have more millionaire black folk but there is a huge drop off)

Im good with that…..
